Restore CommunityCenter 1st United Methodist Church, Ada ~ ReStore Community Center

History:
ReStore Community Center was born in September of 2006 from the vision of several lay people at Ada 1st who were exploring ways that the church could more effectively reach outside its walls to engage the community and make disciples for Jesus Christ.

These people wanted to reach those who for various reasons would probably not come to Ada 1st or other established churches in the community. At this time there were several empty buildings on the Main Street of Ada. Also, Hardees Restaurant, a local gathering place, was being torn down. Mark Light asked the question, “What if we rented the empty building across from the church and sold gently use

When asked how he heard of ReStore ? He answered that many of his friends on ReStores board served @ ReStore abd he wanted to stop in and see what his friends was talking about. Joe said he was really inpressed with ReStore missiion. There was an opening on the board and this mission was something he felt he could join. Joe how long have you servered? 2 1/2 years. What is or was your professional job? Joe was a professor and coach at Ohio Northern University . Head basket ball coach , assistant foottball coach and started the girls soccer team. Coach why do you serve at ReStore? I believe in it's mission. What do you see as ReStores weakness? A real need for volunteers so we could help others with their needs whatever that may be. What is ReStores strenghs? The services we provide, clothing at very affordable. Good, clean clothes plus provides lunches and a place thats warm and friendly for our visiters. Plus so much more.ReStore is a very generous operation. Joe how do you think others could help us ? ( those who currently helping). Joe said , theres two ways he could think of right off the top of his head. Two ways,1. People serve as volunteers and 2. financal contributions.
    Congrats!
Ada ReStore offers dinners to help people cope with loss ReStore is inviting people who have lost loved ones to bond during a monthly dinner at its Ada store. The idea for the Bereavement Dinners, said Director Rob Kanzig, came when a man came into the thrift store last summer to seek help for his wife who was fighting the last stages of cancer. A short time later, the woman lost her battle and Kanzig watched as the man retreated into a shell, he said. For about a month, the man didn’t venture outside, he noted. The dinners take place on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at ReStore, 210 N. Main St., Ada.
