Billionaire Democratic presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg is rising in the polls in the wake of the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary. Democracy Now! co-host Juan González speaks with us about Bloomberg’s approach to campaign spending, the administration’s policies during his three terms as mayor of New York City and the scores of lawsuits filed against Bloomberg and his company. “It’s amazing to me that Michael Bloomberg is getting as much attention as he is,” González says.

Friends, Of the many questions Mike Bloomberg has to answer for -- including his "stop-and-frisk" policies and pronouncements, his views of red-lining, and his opposition to tougher regulation of Wall Street -- the one that's most critical in this Second Gilded Age is his position on big money in politics. Remember, Bloomberg is the 8th most wealthy person in America with a fortune of $61,000,000,000, and he is spending $2,000,000,000 of that seeking the buy the presidency.

On his campaign Web site, Bloomberg pledges to revive the Voting Rights Act and end gerrymandering. Good. But he says nothing about limiting the kind of spending he's now engaging in, curbing the power of lobbyists (many of whom are working on his campaign) or appointing Supreme Court Justices committed to overturning Citizens United. Without an aggressive agenda to get big money out of politics, Bloomberg offers voters a kind of benign oligarchy. Oligarchy is better than the tyranny Trump is offering, but neither is as good as democracy.

Forgiving Student Debt Would Boost Economy, Economists Say

Democratic presidential candidates want to obliterate student debt. Economists say that could help with income inequality, but it would come with a big price tag and risks.

The “Bernie bro” myth is a bad faith smear meant to hurt a true movement of the people lead by AOC, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Naomi Klein, Pramila Jayapal, and so many other amazing leaders who are women. This is an incredible moment in time. And this is a great fact-based article.

“...young women make up more of Sanders' base than men.

He polls especially high with Hispanic voters, far more so than with white voters;

Hispanic voters also donated more money to him than any other Democratic candidate.

Polls consistently show that nonwhite voters prefer him over the other candidates.

Notably, the demographic group that likes Sanders the least is white men.

Moreover, of all the candidates, Sanders has taken in the most money from women.

Many of Sanders' female supporters bemoan how they are ignored by the mainstream press...”

😡reversed the ban on the DNC taking fossil fuel donations.
😡refused to allow a Climate Debate
😡bent the rules so Billionaires like Bloomberg can buy their way onto the debate stage.

Enough is enough. Tom Perez does not represent our generation’s interests. Join us in calling for his resignation by signing the petition here:

Here is the request I made to them and my request for all of you: We’ve got two days left until polls close in New Hampshire. Please do everything you can — knock on doors, make phone calls and talk to your friends. Let’s win here in New Hampshire, let’s defeat Trump, and together let’s create a government that works for all of us.
