We are out at #cleartheshelters today and we are very lucky to say that this year we only have one animal available for adoption! Your year round support has made this our most promising chance to Clear The Shelter! Come by and visit Adrian as we try to find her a loving home and clear our shelter for the FIRST time! We are here until 5pm or until Adrian finds her forever home!

Joey

Tomorrow is #cleartheshelters!!! Unfortunately for Joey he can't come out with us because he's FIV positive and the stress could have a negative effect on his health. But Joey is still available for adoption and would love to go to a low stress home! Contact us at [email protected] or 972-450-2845 for more information on Joey or his FIV positive condition!

Red and Howling

Even when you think the temperature is OK or feels fine to you, your fur kid may feel very differently. Animals don't sweat like humans, so they heat up a lot quicker than we do. Their primary source of cooling down is through panting which is wildly inefficient when exposed to too much heat!

The #1 cause of heatstroke in dogs is leaving them in a vehicle! Never-ever leave a dog in a car even on a mild day. While you're in the air-conditioned store grabbing a few things, your car is quickly turning into an oven. Dogs can suffer brain damage and die from heatstroke.

Helpful Tips: Walk in the early morning and late evening when it is cooler. Carry water with you. Limit exercise on hot days. Avoid surfaces that absorb heat, like asphalt, pavement, metal, sand, and car seats. These materials absorb heat from the sun and can stay hot for hours (even after the sun has gone down). Temperatures on these surfaces can exceed 145° F‼️

Keep your fur kids cool! Fans, ice cubes, frozen treats, kiddie pools, and sprinklers can all help keep the kids cool on hot days.

Make sure fresh water and a cool place to rest is available at all times. xo

The Town of Addison has made the difficult decision to move the 2020 Addison Kaboom Town! fireworks show to a secure, out-of-town location that will be closed to the public. There will be no fireworks in Addison, and no in-person viewing. The show will be shared on Addison’s YouTube Channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/TownofAddison) on July 3rd at 9:30pm and on CW33 on July 4th (check local channels for times).

The Town announced on June 10 the cancellation of the Addison Kaboom Town! Watch Party at Addison Circle Park, along with the air show that historically has preceded the fireworks display. At that time, the Town’s intention was to once again stage one of the nation’s largest Independence Day fireworks shows on July 3rd in Addison.

The decision to only stream the event is due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in Dallas County, as well as difficulty in securing public safety support for traffic control and event security from Addison’s law enforcement partners because of an increase in demand on public safety resources across North Texas.

The health and safety of our residents, businesses, and visitors will always be the Town’s top priority and is a commitment on which Addison will not compromise.

While the Town of Addison staff and its Council Members are disappointed that for the first time in more than 30 years, the skies over Addison will be dark over the Independence Day holiday, North Texans will be able to safely watch our biggest show ever on a television, mobile device, or computer.

Redding Dog Park will reopen on Monday, May 18. The Parks team has recently sodded Spruill Dog Park so we need to wait two weeks before opening it in order to give the grass time to grow. Beginning June 1, the Parks Department will begin closing the dog parks one day a week for maintenance and additional cleaning. Spruill Dog Park will be closed on Tuesdays and Redding Trail Dog Park will be closed on Wednesday.

We ask that you practice social distancing when using any of the Town's parks, including our dog parks! #AddisonCares

Don't forget to leash up, everyone! We've noticed your pup is getting some extra walks per day, and we wanted to send a friendly reminder that, according to Chapter 10 of Town of Addison Code of Ordinance, dogs must be restrained by their owners at all times. If you see a loose dog, please call Addison Animal Control to report it.

In response to Dallas County’s orders to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the Town has temporarily closed the dog parks. The parks will be back open when Addison reopens Town buildings on April 6. The Parks Department will be taking this time to do the needed maintenance on the turf so it will be healthier when we open it again. Thanks for your patience! #AddisonTx

Today, Dallas County announced that restaurants (with or without drive-in or drive-through services) and microbreweries, micro-distilleries, or wineries may only provide take out, delivery, or drive-through services as allowed by law. What this means is that restaurants will not be able to allow patrons to dine in their establishments. The County is also requiring that bars, lounges, taverns, or arcades and private clubs close until the order expires. Lastly it is reducing the threshold for community gatherings from 500 to 50.

This amended order goes into effect at 11:59 pm on March 16 and will remain in effect until 11am on March 20.

Because Addison is in Dallas County, this order extends to all Addison gatherings and establishments. The Town of Addison is deeply concerned about the global spreading of illness caused by COVID-19. As a good community partner, we want to do what we can to help prevent and control this contagious illness.

Addison is home to a large variety of wildlife, including coyotes! This time of year our residents report a lot of sightings of coyotes in the Vitruvian/Les Lacs neighborhoods. They are a natural and vital part of our ecosystem. While we value their role in our community, any reports of aggression towards humans or pets needs to be reported to animal control immediately. We can be reached at 972-450-2845 during business hours and after hours at 972-450-7156 through emergency dispatch.

Are you seeing coyotes? They may be more active now as pups leave the den. Help keep them wild by keeping your pets secured and their food indoors. Here’s more: http://bit.ly/UrbanCoyotes

She's not adjusting well to the shelter environment so she needs a home where she can decompress stress-free for a few days before she'll really warm up to new people! Hi there! We had a momma duck lay an egg on our back patio. She hasn't been back in 2 days! Do you guys transfer eggs to safe place for hatching? Or is this a lost cause? Thank you!
Lost in Post Addison Building 3 - We are heartbroken we couldn’t find him in the building. He’s an excellent hider!

Let me start this post by saying this was not an easy decision for my wife and I to make. Due to my wife’s health battles and the extra stress on our family, we are looking to rehome our sweet Ella. She was initially adopted to become a service dog for my wife. Unfortunately, we do not have the ability to work with her as much as she needs. She is an 8 month old German Shepherd Mix, spayed, registered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. She will come with her food, bowls, toys, and bed (toddler mattress with sheets). She is crate trained and works well for treats. She can: Sit, down, stay, shake, “other hand”, leave it, go to bed/your room All of these skills need some refinement, but she has so much potential for the right family. I would recommend a house with bigger children only because she can knock over smaller kids quite easily. She is great with other dogs, but can be a little too rough on smaller breeds. She is more of a submissive dog. There will be a rehoming fee for her along with a home check just to insure she goes to a good home that is right for her. If you would like more information on adopting Ella, please contact me via messenger or text. 469 662 6603
