Urban Coyotes

Recently our office received a call for a couple coyotes in one of our neighborhoods. At this time the coyotes appear very healthy and show a good fear of people. Below are a few things you can do to help keep the wildlife wild.

All trash needs to be picked up and placed into secure trash cans.

If you feed a pet outside, please pick up any leftover food and water before the evening.

If you feed feral cats, only put out the amount that they will eat, and pick up food and water before the evening.

If you encounter a coyote, we recommend Hazing
Hazing- Make yourself large and LOUD!, waving arms and yell, use noisemakers like whistles, throw rocks, sticks or even tennis balls near them(watch out for other peoples cars), you can also spray them with your water hose if its close.

For more information please watch this video from our friends at Texas Parks & Wildlife

Coyotes live all around us, even if we don’t see them. They use greenbelts and back alleys as corridors to move about our neighborhoods. If you see a coyote,...

Meet Sheba!

This sweet baby is a true survivor. She was found by a good Samaritan on their way from Houston back to DFW. But she was found with multiple wounds all over her body and extremely malnourished. After some TLC and slowly upping her food, she put on just over 10lbs. This sweet girl loves running and playing with her toys. If you would like to be her FUR-ever home, or would like more information on her, please visit https://www.petfinder.com/dog/sheba-55823943/tx/addison/town-of-addison-tx2237/

With this new incident in Dallas, we just want to remind you of things you can do to keep Wildlife, Wild.

• All trash needs to be picked up and placed into secure trash cans.
• If you feed a pet outside, please pick up any leftover food and water before the evening.
• If you feed feral cats, only put out the amount that they will eat, and pick up food and water before the evening.
• If you encounter a coyote we recommend Hazing
o Hazing- Make yourself large and LOUD!, waving arms and yell, use noisemakers like whistles, throw rocks, sticks or even tennis balls near them(watch out for other peoples cars), you can also spray them with your water hose if its close

Dallas police said they shot at the coyote before it ran in the woods near the Vickory Meadows area. Anyone that sees it should call 911.

Have you met Brick yet? This sweet guy needs to find his forever home fast! He is not a fan of the shelter environment and would much rather have a human to cuddle up to. Brick would do best in a home where he can be trained on how to act when left alone outside of a crate, due to forming territorial habits in a crate. Brick is the sweetest guy, and could use your help sharing his post to quickly find him a home!

Wildlife Sighting

We know seeing a Opossum, Raccoon, Bobcat, or Coyote can be scary, and you may not know why its there but Urban Wildlife are very beneficial. Urban wildlife is wildlife that can live or thrive in urban/suburban environments or around densely populated human settlements. Below are a few examples of Urban Wildlife and what they can help with.
For: Mosquitoes/insects- Purple Martins(bird) and Bats(also great pollinators)
Ticks(can carry Lyme disease)-Opossums
Rodents- Bobcats, and Coyotes
Roadkill- Turkey Vulture

Below is a link to a video on Urban Wildlife from our friends over at Texas Parks and Wildlife. You can also report a wildlife sighting in Addison to us by clinking this link-https://us12.sheltermanager.com/service?account=cc1829&method=online_form_html&formid=43

New Year, New tags! Don't forget to register your pet with us if you are a resident of Addison. Super easy process- just fill out the form and mail it or bring it in Monday-Thursday, along with an up-to-date rabies vaccination and $3(altered) or $5(unaltered) per pet! Annual registrations is one of the ways we use to reunite a pet with it's family if it's ever found stray in Addison.

Happy Tails from Rosco's adopter! Rosco came to Addison Animal Control after being rehomed 3 times in less than a year. Rosco had severe scabbing and hair loss when he came to us which was why he kept getting rehomed. While with us, it was discovered he had a flea infestation. After a good flea bath and flea preventative medicine, Rosco was adopted! Three months of love and his coat is full and fluffy, and he's a completely new dog!

We love hearing happy tails of past rescues, especially of animals that showed such contrasting improvements. Our favorite breed is rescue, check out our other adoptable animals: https://www.petfinder.com/search/pets-for-adoption/?shelter_id%5B0%5D=TX2237&sort%5B0%5D=recently_added

Wow! Always love when a former adopter sends us a happy tails story, but we were able to see a former kitten all grown up! Topo (formerly Mountyn Dew) came to us as a stray kitten. Topo has now grown into such a handsome and social butterfly. They came by to donate cat toys and a bed for all our present shelter kitties and future kitties, as a wonderful Christmas gift. We are so thankful we get to see so many wonderful animals go into their furever homes!
Give us a call or email when you or someone you know is looking to add to their family!

Our adoptable and loving animals are already getting into the Holiday Spirit here at Addison Animal Control!

We have so many long term residents that would appreciate being home this holiday season with their furever families!

❤️ Stormi has been with us since he was 4 months old, now going on 6 months of age. He is so full of love, it's crazy that he's here still.

❤️ Jazz has been here for a whole month now, but she has such a vibrant joy to cheer up any home.

❤️ Zoom came to us as a stray in July but has grown to be such a staff favorite, and possibly the biggest sweetheart.

❤️ Arctic has also hit his 2 month mark for length of stay, but he has been having such a fun time playing with all the dogs that come through here!

❤️ Spidey has lasted a month here, which is surprising because she is such a cuddly kitten.

❤️ Saturn and Roast Beef are both new here! Roast Beef is shy but incredibly smart and eager to please. He would probably appreciate a low energy and quiet home to match his quiet demeanor. Saturn is easily the friendliest and most fearless cat here! Saturn got a little lost and approached a good samaritan walking their dog for help! Fortunately we got her the help she needs! Saturn's stray hold ends 11/7.

Call us at (972) 450-2845 to meet any of these cuties!! Share this post to help them find their homes!

Senior Alert! Annabelle is a 13 year old girl who's been with Addison for 74 days. After being a backyard dog, Annabelle came to us when her owners moved and no longer had a yard for her. Her body is growing old but she still has plenty of energy and love to give. Annabelle is a dominant girl so she does not get along with certain dogs. We are looking for an adopter or a rescue to reach out to us! SHARE, so this post can reach a rescue or adopter that she can fit in with.

Check out some good news! Casey and Sophia, who were underweight when they came to us, have reached a very healthy weight. These pictures show what exactly 1 month of TLC can do for a dog - imagine what a forever home could do for a dog! Sophia has already been adopted, but Casey is still in search for his forever home.

Meet Hector! Hector is so full of love, we can't believe he's been in the shelter for so long! He is crazy about dogs, all for playing fetch, and is bananas for his humans. Hector is such a flexible dog- he can be an exercise buddy, a dog park buddy, or is fine playing with toys/fur-siblings/people around the house or in a yard. What's not to love about this handsome fella? He's ready for his forever home!

Thank you.
Let me start this post by saying this was not an easy decision for my wife and I to make. Due to my wife’s health battles and the extra stress on our family, we are looking to rehome our sweet Ella.
She was initially adopted to become a service dog for my wife. Unfortunately, we do not have the ability to work with her as much as she needs. She is an 8 month old German Shepherd Mix, spayed, registered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. She will come with her food, bowls, toys, and bed (toddler mattress with sheets). She is crate trained and works well for treats.
She can:
Sit, down, stay, shake, “other hand”, leave it, go to bed/your room
All of these skills need some refinement, but she has so much potential for the right family. I would recommend a house with bigger children only because she can knock over smaller kids quite easily. She is great with other dogs, but can be a little too rough on smaller breeds. She is more of a submissive dog. There will be a rehoming fee for her along with a home check just to insure she goes to a good home that is right for her. If you would like more information on adopting Ella, please contact me via messenger or text. 469 662 6603
