Summer will soon transition to Fall, but there is still time to fit in some of the activities and goals you had in mind with your favorite older adult. It’s National Senior Citizen Day and EverTrue is ready to celebrate the more than 16,500 older adults we serve each year in our communities, programs and services! Our residents and clients are embodiments of the authenticity behind our mission: Older Adults Living Life to the Fullest.

Like our residents Linda and Bette:
Linda was one of the first residents of EverTrue Village at Mackenzie, in 2011. Linda has taken to learning new hobbies and sharing them with the rest of the community. She learned new card games and now also plays mahjong. She took a class in watercolor painting and, after the instructor moved on, she started teaching the class for others. Next, Linda will be teaching a class in resin art.

Bette has called our community "home" since 2019 and has become the heart of two of our most valued programs. As coordinator of Bingo and the Food Pantry, she reaches out to vendors to secure sponsorships, purchases prizes, calls the games and carefully manages the Monday, Friday, Sunday schedules that keep everything running smoothly. Her dedication and organization ensure that residents can count on these programs week after week.

Each August 7th, Americans honor the men and women who were wounded or killed in combat while serving our nation as part of Purple Heart Day. This day is special for many members of our EverTrue communities, veterans who carry their own stories of courage and sacrifice to our country.

Veterans like:
🎖️EverTrue resident Robert Schuller, who was a Marine Corps Sergeant (Kilo Company 26) and served in the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Purple Heart in 1968.
🎖️EverTrue resident Merle Freitag, who was in the Army for 32 years, retiring as Lieutenant General. He served the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart during service in the Vietnam War.
🎖️EverTrue Care Center client, Paul David McAlister, who was awarded the Purple Heart for his service in the Vietnam War. He served in the Army, retiring as Sergeant.

Many of EverTrue’s communities have specialty groups for our veterans, encouraging them to share their stories and support while looking for new ways to live life to the fullest. Our thanks to all who committed to military service, risking their lives for our freedoms.

We’re excited to share that, along with our own name change, our wonderful partner Gateway Greening has also rebranded as Seed STL! 🌱

Our residents take great pride in helping make our community a beautiful and welcoming place through their dedication to gardening. They spend countless hours planting and caring for colorful flowers, fresh vegetables, and greenery that brighten the property and create an inviting atmosphere for everyone. Their hard work not only enhances the appearance of our community but also fosters a sense of pride, connection, and teamwork among neighbors. The gardens are a wonderful reflection of our residents’ commitment to creating a warm, vibrant, and enjoyable place to call home.

Thirty-six years ago, a historic civil rights law protecting the rights of people with disabilities was signed into law. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ensures all people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.

Thanks to building codes and guidance from ADA experts, EverTrue has created communities with accessibility planned for people with disabilities, particularly keeping in mind the accommodations that impact older adults most. We even use ADA concepts to improve surroundings and make life more comfortable for our residents without disabilities.

"These accommodations help residents to maintain their independence and preserve their dignity," said Todd Hageman, a registered architect and Director of Capital Planning & Design at EverTrue. "ADA features enable residents to move more freely and use spaces, like bathrooms, more safely. EverTrue has a long history to fall back on when deciding what is needed: we can look at our past building experience to see what works, what doesn't work and what can be improved."

There’s nothing better in the summer than having a cookout. Whether you’re the grill master or you bring a dish to a potluck, these gatherings are a great way to enjoy time with loved ones and stay active.
