Philosophy of the Aiken County Public School District page The purpose of the Aiken County Public School District page is to provide important and timely information about our district to parents and the community. Facebook can be a valuable resource for disseminating vital information and announcements (such as school closings), but it is only a supplement to other channels of communication. Our page is not a moderated open forum, nor is it intended to be. We cannot always respond to specific questions or comments, although we welcome general comments and requests for clarification that would be of interest to all parents. If you have a question or comment regarding a particular school or student, please contact your child’s school directly. Negative comments identifying students and personal attacks of any nature against students, staff members, or administrators will not be allowed. Vulgar and abusive comments will be removed, and will result in sender(s) being blocked if continued, as will excessive comments from any individual(s) who attempt to utilize this medium personally in a manner that interferes with the site’s communication function.

Mission: The mission of Aiken County Public Schools, the emerging premier school district, is to cultivate future-ready students to serve our evolving community and world through an innovative, literacy-focused school system distinguished by rigorous, personalized learning opportunities; highly effective, service-driven professionals; and mutually-beneficial partnerships. ATTENTION PARENTS & GUARDIANS:

A robocall message was supposed to have been delivered to you this afternoon at 4:00 p.m.

However, our mass notification system provider has experienced a network failure and we have been unable to deliver this message through our normal channels. Please see the message below in its entirety.

We apologize for the inconvenience!

ROBOCALL MESSAGE:

Good Afternoon Parents and Guardians,

This is Mike Rosier, Communications Coordinator with Aiken County Public Schools, calling this afternoon with two very important messages regarding the release of student cohort information for our Hybrid in-person instructional model, and the deadline for the withdrawal of students from our full-time virtual instructional model known as AIKEN iNNOVATE.

First, the Blue and Red student cohorts for our Hybrid in-person instructional model will be released through our Parent Portal this Friday afternoon, August 14, 2020.

As a reminder, students in the Blue Cohort will attend school for in-person instruction on Mondays and Tuesdays beginning with their first day of in-person instruction on Monday, August 31, 2020. Meanwhile, students in the Red Cohort will attend school for in-person instruction on Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning with their first day of in-person instruction on Wednesday, September 2, 2020.

Parents should login to their Parent Portal accounts and look for “My Schedule” on the left side of the page. For parents and guardians with students who are NEW to Aiken County Public Schools, and who have not yet established a parent portal account, an email will be sent to the primary email account listed on the student’s registration.

Unless there are extenuating circumstances, we will be unable to accommodate changes in cohorts.
If a parent or guardian has concerns regarding the cohort to which their student has been assigned, please contact your school.

Second, parents with students who have been enrolled in our full-time virtual program known as AIKEN iNNOVATE should have received an email on Tuesday, August 11, with additional details on Participation in Ai, technology and Ai, Virtual Assessments through Ai, and the deadline to notify the district of a decision to withdraw from Ai. Parents, please note: If you no longer wish for your student to participate in the full-time virtual option, AIKEN iNNOVATE, you must email your request to [email protected].

If you did not receive the AIKEN iNNOVATE email, the contents of the message have been shared on our school district’s page on Facebook, as well as the Back-2-School Safely page on our website.

AIKEN iNNOVATE parents please remember: the deadline for parents and guardians to request to have their student or students withdrawn from AIKEN iNNOVATE is this Friday, August 14. Please do so by emailing your request to [email protected].

Due to staffing needs we will not be able to accept withdrawals after this date.

Thank you so much for your continued support of Aiken County Public Schools.

I hope you have a great afternoon!

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR PARENTS OF STUDENTS WHO HAVE BEEN REGISTERED FOR AIKEN iNNOVATE

Parents with students who have been enrolled in our full-time virtual program known as AIKEN iNNOVATE should have received an email on Tuesday, August 11, with additional details on Participation in Ai, technology and Ai, Virtual Assessments through Ai, and the deadline to notify the district of a decision to withdraw from Ai.

Parents, please note: If you no longer wish for your student to participate in the full-time virtual option, AIKEN iNNOVATE, you must email your request to [email protected].

If you did not receive the AIKEN iNNOVATE email, the contents of the message have been shared both in this post and on the Back-2-School Safely page on our website.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to AIKEN iNNOVATE, Aiken County Public Schools’ virtual program for grades K-12. We have you registered for courses and are currently working on teacher assignments and finalizing daily schedules. Those items should be shared with you by August 24th.

PARTICIPATION IN Ai
Students in grades 5K-12 are eligible to participate in AIKEN iNNOVATE. Students registered for Ai should be committed to participating daily and should have an adult who closely monitors participation and engagement. Students who are a part of the elementary and middle school courses will participate in online and offline activities throughout the day, following the hours of a normal school schedule. Students in high school courses will engage in more independent work. Please note that due to staffing and course limits, participation in Ai requires a minimum commitment of one semester, which will end on January 22nd. Additional information about Ai can be found on the district’s website at the following link: AIKEN iNNOVATE

TECHNOLOGY
Participation in AIKEN iNNOVATE requires access to a laptop, desktop, or other device and reliable Internet multiple times throughout the day. If you do not have access to a device or need a hotspot for Internet and indicated this need on your registration form, you will be contacted through this email by August 19th of a time and location for distribution. If you did not indicate on your registration form a need for a device or hotspot, please email [email protected] with your child’s name, grade, and student ID to add your name to the technology waiting list.

ASSESSMENT
Based on SC Department of Education guidelines and the passage of Act 142, which was signed into law on June 26, 2020, students in grades K-9 must participate in certain assessments during the first 10 days of school, with allowance being given to administration of these assessments during LEAP days – August 17-21. For kindergarten and first grade students, the assessment, FastBridge, must be administered face-to-face. Kindergarten students must also participate in the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA), which must be administered at the school. The teacher or someone from your child’s home school will contact you to schedule a time to come in.

For grades 2-9, assessments required during the first 10 days will be administered virtually. More information will be provided in the next two weeks by your child’s teacher or school.

Please note that some assessments required at the end of the year may require face-to-face administration. As we receive guidance from the State Department of Education, we will share it with you.

WITHDRAWAL FROM Ai
Due to staffing and course limits, participation in Ai requires a minimum commitment of one semester, which will end on January 22nd. If you no longer wish to participate in Ai, the deadline to withdraw is Friday, August 14th. Please do so by emailing [email protected]. We will not be able to accept withdrawals after this date due to staffing.

UPDATED 2020-21 SCHOOL DISTRICT CALENDAR

During a special called virtual meeting of the Aiken County Board of Education held Wednesday, July 29, 2020, members of our board approved a new starting date of Monday, August 31, 2020, for the 2020-21 school year.

During the meeting board members also approved revisions to the 2020-21 school calendar. In order to accommodate the new starting date and not impact the school district's traditional two-week Christmas Break and previously scheduled dates for high school graduations, these revisions included the following changes:

- Converting the Labor Day Holiday (Sept. 7) and Monday, January 4, 2021, to regular school days.

- Converting a scheduled fall break (Nov. 9-13) coinciding with the Masters Golf Tournament to regular school days.

THANK YOU for your patience, understanding and continued support as we continue to navigate these unprecedented times in public education.
