Bison....in your backyard? We've got that in South Carolina's Western Region.

This might look like the next best album cover, but don't let their fuzzy coats fool you, bison can be very aggressive and agile making them more dangerous than the average cow herd.

Debbie and Barry Mauldin's love of bison led to the creation of Lone Palm Bison Co. of Johnston in 2009 with six female yearlings, and have grown their herd to 26. The Lone Palm Bison are a cross between wood and plains bison. Look for their products at the local farmers markets and Woods Farm Market in Aiken!

If you haven't seen the announcement, our region has gained a wonderful new asset!

As of Monday, September 28th, John de la Howe School of Agriculture, officially became the South Carolina Governor's School for Agriculture at John de la Howe. Governor McMaster signed the legislation designating JDLH the 3rd Governor's School for our state. JDLH is the first and only statewide program of it's kind providing hands on learning in 'the fields of agriculture, agribusiness, forestry, land management, food science, and more - all aimed at assessing the needs of modern farms.'

Click the link below to read their news release and learn more about our region's very own Governor's School.

Edgefield County is a part of the Aiken/Augusta MSA, and is located on the Savannah River, just north of Augusta and northwest of Aiken County. The county’s economy is balanced with approximately equal sectors of agriculture, manufacturing, and services.

Did you know the largest ship to ever call the US East Coast will be docking in Charleston on Sunday?!

The CMA CGM Brazil, which measures 1,200 feet long, or four SC State houses long, will dock at the Wando Welch Terminal on September 20th.

Yesterday, our own Will Williams, EDP Pres. & CEO, completed the 4th South Carolina Ports Authority Ambassador program. Williams posted saying, "As an economic developer I thought I knew a lot about their work. I didn’t, but I do now after having been allowed behind 'the curtain.' It’s one of South Carolina’s best assets, impacting all 46 Counties. Hard working South Carolinians making a difference every day!"

Check out Will's pictures from the Port and the Port's graphic showing the impressive size of CMA CGA Brazil ship!

President Will Williams representing SCBIO while doing his part to #MaskUp!

To continue successfully reopening our economy and to produce crucial drugs, medical devices, and other vital products amid this active pandemic – SC can and must do better. This is especially true as hospital ICUs are filling up, schools begin reopening, influenza season re-starts in September, and hurricanes are brewing that could potentially hit our shores.

As the world continues it’s fight against COVID-19, we are committed to doing our part to #MaskUp and #CrushCOVID together. 👊

Join us in fighting against this pandemic. #CrushCOVID 🤜 🦠

Check out this recent article on Aiken Standard about our Dragon Lair Road relocation project!

"Dragon Lair’s separation of the tracts “has caused us to be taken out of consideration for about six projects over the last five years,” Williams added."

Once completed, the new road will open up over 400 acres for development and give residents of Dragon Lair Rd a paved route to Bettis Academy Rd.

Thanks to our partners at S.C. Department of Commerce, SC Power Team, and Aiken Electric Cooperative, INC this road project has been completely funded by grant dollars.

When you're competing globally, you need extensive utility capacity and well-engineered infrastructure that offers plenty of room to grow. If inbound or outbound rail is crucial to your business, you’ll benefit from service by both of the large Eastern systems, Norfolk Southern and CSX, as well as local short line Aiken Railway. The Sage Mill Industrial Park and Ridge Spring Industrial Site each have an existing rail spur.

If you can make it here, you can send it anywhere. #MadeitHere #EDPSC

Aiken is famous for our Avenue of Oaks. The beautiful Southern Oak Trees were planted along South Boundary as a 19th century venture to beautify the city. The lush foliage of the oaks created a canopy arching above the road, forming one of America's most beautiful streets to stroll, photograph, or run down. Now, the trees are just as beloved as when they were first planted.
