ASWCD is accepting applications for the position of Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioner for an appointed position. This is a non-paying position. Commissioners identify local conservation needs, set goals, and develop plans to achieve those goals, and ensure implementation of the plan in order to maintain effective programs. If interested submit your resume to ASWCD, 1555 Richland Ave East, Suite 400 or email to [email protected]. Applications will be accepted until October 13, 2026 by 4pm.

🌱 **SEED PEOPLE ARE A DIFFERENT BREED.** 🌱

You know you’re a seed person when…

😂 You have enough seeds to plant a garden the size of your county… but you’re STILL looking at the seed rack thinking, *“Ooooh… I don’t have that one.”*

😂 You have approximately 47 packets of seeds you *forgot you bought.* (This ties very closely to the first one 😎)

😂 You save empty seed packets because, well… **YOU MIGHT NEED IT SOMEDAY.** (Don't question us.)

😂 You have a perfectly good refrigerator, but somehow the most important real estate in your house is the little spot where you keep your seeds.

😂 You go outside to “check the garden” and three hours later you’re still out there, dirty, sweaty, carrying a tomato in one hand and a w**d in the other, wondering where the afternoon went.

😂 Someone says, *“You don't need any more seeds.” and you immediately know this person cannot be trusted. 😏

😂 You see a volunteer plant pop up somewhere it absolutely should NOT be growing and think, *“Well… let's see what happens.”*

😂 You don't consider dirt under your fingernails a problem. **You consider it proof of a productive day.**

😂 And if somebody gives you seeds as a gift? You don't just say thank you. You **LOVE THEM FOREVER.** ❤️🌱

Yep… we're a special bunch.

But here's the real question:

👇 **What's the ONE thing you do as a gardener that makes your family shake their head and say, “You're a little crazy”?**

Come on… **confess.** 😂

🌱 **We won't judge. We're seed people too.**

South Aiken's FFA will host their fall plant sale on Saturday, September 26th from 9am-2pm. Please come support our FFA students as they raise money for their program activities and travel expenses. They will be selling cabbages, collards, broccoli, basil, chives, marigolds, pansies, violas, and much more! We hope to see you there!

POP-UP FREE SEED LIBRARY EVENT –Thursdays, September 3, & 17, 1:00 pm -3:00 pm. In partnership with the library, The Aiken Soil and Water Conservation District will host a Pop-Up Seed Event to distribute free vegetable, herb and flower seeds to residents. Packets will be limited to 3 per patron.
