The season with the highest abundance of adult Western Black-legged ticks, the vectors of Lyme disease is still with us in our local forested parks and recreational areas. Be tick-aware when hiking: wear light colored clothing so ticks are easy to spot. Do frequent tick checks, of yourself and companions. Repellants containing DEET work best on skin (follow label directions), and for clothing there a permethrin-based sprays that will help keep ticks off.
