Welcome to the City of Alamo page. Our page has information about the City of Alamo and other areas of interests around Alamo. The City of Alamo has no direct relation to the Alamo located in San Antonio. The land on which the city is located was once owned by the Alamo Land and Sugar Company. The City of Alamo is located in the South Texas area known as the Rio Grande Valley. The Rio Grande Valley consists of four counties: Starr, Hidalgo, Willacy and Cameron. Alamo is located almost in the center of the Rio Grande Valley, in Hidalgo County. The area, which includes Alamo, has been in a construction boom for an estimated 5 years with new subdivisions, resturants, and businesses being developed in a rapid pace. CNN pegged the McAllen, Rio Grande Valley area one of the top 10 cities to buy real estate. The City of Alamo is also called the "Refuge to the Valley" since traveling though Alamo will take you straight to the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge. It is a favorite of birdwatchers from all regions of the world.

Mission: Known as the “Refuge to the Valley”, the City of Alamo is a haven dedicated to providing sustainable, reputable, superior services for all citizens, businesses and visitors.

Do you have questions about renewing your vehicle registration while the COVID-19 waiver remains in effect?

Before you call or email, read below for answers to some of our most frequently-asked questions about registration renewal during the COVID-19 pandemic:

𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗜 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗺𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱?

Yes. If you renew your registration during the waiver period, you are still required to pass vehicle inspection first. The only exception to this is for those currently out of state (such as students or active military), who may self-certify that they are not in Texas during the online renewal process. Online registration renewal: renew.TxDMV.gov.

𝗗𝗼 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝘆 𝘃𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗳 𝗜 𝘄𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱?

No, you will not lose your specialty plate sequence if you do not renew during the waiver period. You may renew if you wish, or choose to take no action during the waiver period. If you take no action, you will have 60 days from the date the department announces that normal operations have resumed to have your vehicle inspected and complete the registration process.

𝗜 𝗮𝗺 𝘂𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗺𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝗜 𝗱𝗼?

For those unable to renew their registration online, you may be able to renew in person at your local county tax office (or through an authorized agent, such as certain grocery stores), or by mail. County tax offices provide some services on behalf of TxDMV, however they are independently staffed and operated. Please contact your county office directly to determine its current operating hours, available services, and any special procedures related to COVID-19.

Registration fees are calculated at the county level, and vary from county to county. To determine the amount due to renew your vehicle registration, please contact your county tax office directly.
