Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central New Mexico is the local affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. For over 100 years Big Brothers Big Sisters has been matching one child with one professionally supported volunteer in a mutually rewarding relationship to help children realize their full potential! Big Brothers Big Sisters has served the Otero County community since 1989 by matching youth with carefully screened volunteers. A cause I care about needs help organized by Angela Reed Padilla

Big Brothers Big Sisters is being affected as hard by the stay at home orders as any small business in our state. We've had to cease operations of our Donation Center which means several of those employees are currently out of work. Many of of our other funding sources are dependent on our staff members and volunteers meeting with the youth we serve either in school or out in the community.

GOFUNDME is currently helping small business like us by providing matching funds for monies we raise through their platform. Please help us continue to provide our value service to youth in our community by donating today

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central New Mexico is the umbrella organization for Big Brothers Big Sisters in Otero County. Funds raised from Otero County will be used to support the team in Otero County.

Big Brothers Big Sisters in San Juan County is committed to keeping our mentors, mentees, employees and supporters healthy and safe. We are currently taking steps to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Effective today:
• BBBSOtero staff will work from their homes until further notice.
• Community-Based matches are urged to meet in-person if all parties are comfortable with meeting. Please take precautions to make sure that everyone remains healthy. A short walk outside may be just what is needed during this high stress time.
• If you are uncomfortable meeting in-person, matches are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to meet virtually (video calling, text, phone, etc.) for at least 15 minutes a week. Relationships are not cancelled even though everything else is. Let your mentees know that you are thinking about them and care about what they are doing during this unprecedented time.
• BBBSSJC staff are currently developing a way for site-based Bigs and Little to meet virtually without exchanging personal information. Stay tuned as we anticipate launching our plans this week.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at [email protected].

Internet Essentials from Comcast

As our country continues to struggle to manage the COVID-19 emergency, we recognize that our company plays an important role in helping our customers stay connected – to their families, their workplaces, their schools, and the latest information about the virus – through the Internet.

We also know that for millions of low-income Americans who don't have Internet service at home, this uncertain time is going to be even more difficult to manage. As schools and businesses close and families are encouraged, or even mandated, to stay home, Internet connectivity becomes even more important.

Fortunately, there is something we can do to help. Dozens of our valued partners, like you, have reached out to ask for support, and we recently made two important announcements:
• First, to help connect more low-income families during this difficult time, we're offering any new Internet Essentials customer two months of complimentary internet service, effective immediately. After the second month, customers are free to cancel their service, as the program never requires a contract, or remain in the program as paying customers at the heavily discounted Internet Essentials rate of $9.95 a month.
• Second, for all new and existing Internet Essentials customers, we're going to increase the speed of the program's internet service to 25 Mbps downstream and 3 Mbps upstream. That increase will go into effect for no additional fee and customers won't have to do a thing. The speed will roll out over the next few days and will become the new base speed for the program going forward.
In the meantime, please help us spread the word by sharing this announcement from Dana Strong, President, Consumer Services, Comcast Cable, with your networks. There are many households who could benefit from this program, and with your help, we can raise awareness about this important opportunity. Please reach out to [email protected] if there are any questions.

About Internet Essentials
The Internet Essentials program is available to all qualified low-income households in Comcast's service area. It offers low-cost internet service for $9.95/month, the option to purchase a heavily subsidized computer for under $150, and access to digital skills training materials online, in print, and in-person. Since 2011, Internet Essentials has helped connect more than 8 million people, from 2 million low-income households to Internet at home.

To sign up, applicants should go to www.internetessentials.com. The website can be read in seven different languages and includes the option to video chat with customer service agents in ASL. There are also two dedicated phone numbers. For English call 1-855-846-8376. Spanish-only speakers can call 1-855-765-6995.

Internet from Comcast brings affordable, high-speed Internet to low-income households so you can have greater access to homework, job opportunities, healthcare and benefits, education resources, and more.
