September is Workforce Development Month, and this year we’ve chosen “From Adversity to Opportunity” to focus on the challenges and opportunities presented by the pandemic.

Over the next few weeks, we will be tackling a different theme relating to the world of work. We’ll be covering working in a virtual world, workforce services, apprenticeships, and industries especially impacted by the pandemic, including hospitality, restaurants, and retail.

SLV Businesses -

We want to know how you're doing!

As this pandemic progresses, we think that it's vital to keep up with the ever-changing situation for our local businesses. We would appreciate your participation in a short business check-in survey at www.slvdrg.org, which should only take a few minutes of your time. Information gained will give us a sense of what stage we're at in recovery, and will help local leaders in developing a plan going forward.

The survey can be completed on the front page of our website at www.slvdrg.org

Thank you in advance for your participation.

Labor Department Issues Statement
on the “Lost Wages Assistance Program”
on expanded unemployment benefits
DENVER - Today the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment issued the following statement on the President’s Executive Order from August 8th regarding the Lost Wages Assistance Program:

“While the President signed an Executive Order on August 8th regarding a Lost Wages Assistance Program, which allows for an additional $400 weekly benefit payment to all unemployment compensation recipients who have a base weekly benefit amount of at least $100, we are still awaiting technical guidance from the US Department of Labor on options for implementation within the states. Among the executive order provisions is the expectation that states provide 25% of the additional $400 weekly benefit. Until more information is provided regarding financing and state options regarding the $100 state contribution, we are unable to comment on the viability of implementation of this assistance program within the state of Colorado.

When we have additional information, we will update claimants on our website, social media platforms, and directly via claimant communications. Claimants who have already filed for benefits do not need to contact CDLE to receive the additional payments.”

Today was a great day to celebrate at Monte Vista Kids Connection!! In an extraordinary collaboration between RGPP, MVKC, and a handful of other organizations, such as the Workforce Center and Rio Grande Farm Park, youth learned about their community, science lessons with live bugs, and career readiness. They participated in a poster contest to improve community awareness for RGPP. Here’s the pictures of 1st, 2nd, 3rd placements. All posters will be displayed around the community. We are very thankful to all the organizations that participated, to Monte Vista Kids Connection, and especially the youth!!
