General information

Emergency Shelter La Puente Home is one of the only organizations in Southern Colorado that supplies emergency shelter services. In 2010, we provided over 9,500 nights of lodging to 643 individuals and 66 families. We welcome families, migrant farm workers, and other individuals in need to use our services; each guest is allowed to stay for up to one month as they work to get back on their feet. The Shelter has 45 beds that are split into a women's area, a men's area, and family accommodations. In addition, there are two public showers available for the use of any community members in need. In addition to providing food, shelter, and a safe environment, the Shelter also addresses needs by connecting guests with community resources and by aiding them in identifying options and setting realistic goals. Community Meals La Puente Home Shelter serves 3 meals a day. These meals are open to the community as well as the guests currently residing at the shelter. Breakfast- 6:30am Lunch- 12noon Dinner- 6pm All food for our meals is donated and meals are prepared by shelter staff members or community volunteers and workgroups. Veterans Program VETS La Puente Home also houses a special Veterans Per Diem Program. This program has been established to assist homeless veterans in Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico. Our program is set up to assist homeless veterans for up to two years while they strive for self sufficiency. Services provided with our veterans program include: room and board, access to a phone, help with transportation, evaluation and assistance with benefits based on eligibility, referrals to supportive services (social services, mental health support, employment, and support groups), along with planning and guidance for transitioning to stable living.
