Arrest Made in Connection with Shots Fired Incident
A 32-year-old Albany man has been charged with reckless endangerment in connection with a shooting that occurred last month on First Street.
Jahmel Inman was arrested yesterday morning following an investigation by members of the Albany Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit.
On Friday, May 22, 2026 around 10:20 p.m., officers responded to the 500 block of First Street near Ontario Street for reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located evidence consistent with gunfire. While officers were still on scene investigating the shooting incident, staff from Albany Medical Center Hospital notified police that a 28-year-old male had entered the emergency room with a gunshot wound to his lower leg.
Through investigation, it was determined that the male was shot on First Street.
The victim was treated at Albany Medical Center Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Through further investigation, Inman was identified as the individual firing the handgun. Additionally, during this incident Inman threatened a known female victim with a handgun prior to the shooting incident.
On Wednesday, June 10, 2026 around 8:00 a.m., members from the Albany Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence on North Manning Boulevard near Clinton Avenue in regard to the shooting investigation. During the search warrant, Inman fled through the rear of the house and forcibly entered a residence at Manning Square occupied by a female and her three children. While inside, Inman forcibly took the victim’s cell phone, preventing her from calling emergency services as well as locking them in a bedroom preventing their escape. Members from the Albany Police Department’s Emergency Services Team entered the Manning Square residence and took Inman into custody.
Inman has been charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd, one count of Reckless Endangerment 1st, one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd, one count of Resisting Arrest, one count of Criminal Contempt 1st, and one count of Menacing 2nd in connection with the shooting incident on First Street.
Additionally, he has been charged in connection with yesterday’s incident with one count of Kidnapping 2nd, one count of Burglary 2nd, one count of Robbery 3rd, one count of Criminal Mischief 4th, and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
The female victim and her three children were not injured.
He was arraigned yesterday afternoon and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
