I want to give a special shoutout and thank you to Richard Conti for endorsing our effort to bring meaningful election reform to Albany.
One thing that really stayed with me after getting involved in local politics is that so many people in our community don’t even get a voice in the elections that shape our city — especially voters who are unaffiliated or independent. But they’re still our neighbors. They still care about Albany. They still deserve to be part of the conversation.
If we want to make Albany stronger and bring people together, we cannot keep shutting people out of the democratic process. We need to bring more voices to the table, not fewer.
That’s why it’s been refreshing to meet leaders like Richard who truly believe public service is about putting the community first and opening democracy up to more people.
In Richard’s words:
“I support ranked-choice voting and a single, unified election because it gives every voter a stronger voice and ensures that winners reflect broad community support rather than the preferences of a narrow primary electorate. By simplifying the process and opening participation to all voters at once, these reforms reduce barriers, encourage higher turnout, and create a more inclusive and representative democracy.” #518
