By Douglas Mallary, NMNG Public Affairs
Spc. Aszha Bah Charley is a Navajo from Gallup, N.M. She is a high school graduate and currently a sophomore at Eastern New Mexico University. Her hobbies include practicing her music and hiking.
Charley joined the New Mexico National Guard in March 2019. She is a Computer Detection Systems Repairer assigned to the 642nd Ordnance Company (Component Repair). She also works full time for the NMNG as an Electronics Mechanic.
“I joined to establish a stable foundation for my future and so I could continue to pursue a career in music,” Charley said.
When asked what keeps her in uniform, she said, “I really enjoy my job and what opportunities the Guard has offered me, and some of the people definitely make it worth it.”
As for her plans, Charley said, “I want to become a music teacher and possibly help the communities on the Navajo Nation through that (music).”
