Every department needs one of these!

This incredibly brave k9 dog lost a leg in conflict but she never lets that slow her down, and she just got the best reward!

Friends: we need three more volunteers for Thursday night's cadet awards banquet: Wool Warehouse at 5:30. The event ends at 9 and clean-up, if necessary, should be done by 9:30. (It is possible, but not yet known, if the venue will perform clean-up so you may be able to leave earlier...) This is considered a formal event. At this late hour, I can't promise you can still join the meal (cost is $20) but the sooner you respond, the more likely it is we'll be able to get you squeezed in!

There is no scheduled meeting for December. Happy Holidays to all! We will meet again in January and will post the date as soon as details are worked out. We'll send out a call for volunteers for the holiday food and toy drive as soon as we know what is needed and when.

Greetings law enforcement colleagues:

There is still time left to capture and send in your most spirited community policing moments!

Earlier this month, during National Community Policing Week, we launched our third annual “Community Policing in Action” photo contest.

We invite all state, local, territorial and tribal law enforcement agencies to submit a photo from now until November 4th for an opportunity to be featured on the COPS Office website, Twitter, and Facebook headers for one month during the 2017 calendar year. Each winning law enforcement agency may also be featured in the COPS Office e-newsletter, the Community Policing Dispatch and a COPS Office issued press release.

For detailed rules, terms and conditions, along with required release and consent forms, please visit www.cops.usdoj.gov/photocontest. SUBMISSIONS WITHOUT PROPER RELEASE AND CONSENT FORMS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Remember, this is a contest so be creative!

Please submit any questions or concerns to [email protected].

Another reminder from Gretchen:

Don't forget tonight's big event - Opening ceremonies for BCSO CA Class #7 and the alumni presentation to Deputy Hopkins. Be there or be square! (Hiland Theater at 6 p.m.)

A reminder from Gretchen:

Tomorrow through Sunday are the last days of the Battle of the Badges blood drive. If we don't 'win' this year, we'll have to wait until next summer to try again. Let's show our support and appreciation to Deputy Hopkins, the BCSO, and all law enforcement by showing up to donate!!!

While updating my BATFE email subscription list, I was offered a lot of other mailing lists I might have an interest in. One of them lead me to a program called COPS (Community Oriented Policing Services). There were a couple items I noticed on their site that might add value in some way to this group.

The Collaboration Toolkit for Community Organizations -
Outlines how to strengthen partnerships between the community and law enforcement

Community Partnerships CD-ROM -
Provides resources for community groups and citizens interested in partnering with local law enforcement to promote public safety

There were a number of similar items on their Resource page:
