In March, NMDWS waived the work search requirements for UI claimants who lost their job or had hours reduced as a result of COVID-19. This waiver will end on July 18, 2020.

Claimants receiving benefits will be required to complete at least two work searches per week when they certify. In upcoming weeks, NMDWS and New Mexico Workforce Connection offices will provide guidance, training, and workshop options to claimants that will satisfy the work search requirement for the week in which they attend.

Per federal regulations, claimants receiving PUA will not be required to complete work searches.

An additional 13 weeks of benefits is available to individuals who have exhausted their regular state Unemployment Insurance claim with a benefit year that ended on or after July 1, 2019. View our new video on how to apply at https://youtu.be/s_lAMMajusU.

The additional weeks of benefits are provided by Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC). Once a claimant’s benefit year ceases, they can then establish a new benefit year to requalify for regular unemployment.

PEUC is for individuals who have exhausted 26 weeks of regular Unemployment Insurance benefits; are able to work, available to work, and actively seeking work; or are partially unemployed.

Eligible individuals will receive the same amount of Unemployment Insurance benefits as the previous weeks they received. They will also receive Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC), an additional $600 to their weekly benefits up until July 25, 2020 (Max. $1,061 in New Mexico).

Additional information for workers affected by COVID-19, including frequently asked questions, can be found at www.dws.state.nm.us/COVID-19-Info.

Our Story

The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS), whose mission is to Educate, Empower, Employ, and Enforce, is committed to being a leader in and a facilitator of a competitive workforce for the benefit of all New Mexico.

NMDWS has statewide oversight of workforce development programs, for both youth and adults, funded by Wagner-Peyser, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, and the Veterans Act. NMDWS administers various federal programs including: Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA); Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC); and Rapid Response (RR). NMDWS also enforces minimum wage, payment of wages, and overtime labor laws under the New Mexico Minimum Wage Act in addition to enforcing the payment of scale wages to laborers and mechanics under the New Mexico Public Works Minimum Wage Act. The department accepts and investigates claims of discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, ancestry, sex, age, physical and mental handicap, serious medical condition, disability, spousal affiliation, sexual orientation, and gender identity. The department also produces labor market information by collecting, analyzing, reporting, and publishing information about economic conditions and trends such as the unemployment rate, job growth and wage levels. Information is also provided on the types of jobs and how they are changing, the available workers and their characteristics. Lastly, NMDWS administers the Unemployment Insurance (UI), the largest program in the department, which pays benefits to people who are out of work through no fault of their own and who meet certain qualifications. NMDWS processes claims for unemployment benefits, manages the UI Operations Center, and authorizes the weekly payment of benefits to claimants submitting their UI certifications.

Hello. I am a little concerned because I had made an appeal because i have been furloughed since March 1, 2020, due to the pandemic. I began applying for attempting to apply for unemployment sometime mid-March.. TO ME >> THIS app and the whole process were still IS very confusing to me.. PERSONALLY, i think that they failed NOW I KNOW ALL THIS JUST CAME TUMBLING ON US >> but ... For people with health conditions or disabilities .. THIS platform was not very attentive to us. There was no way to call.. i mean i called but it kept hanging up on me .. NON of my emails have still to this day been answered.. OK Okay, my initial concern and question come because I made an appeal to get the back pay that option. I can not certify my job search. though in the correspondence they do ADVISE ME TO CONTINUE certifying as will help in ay other appeals ../? I am almost certain the judge said that the appeal WOUND NOT affect my current benefits.. After seeing the option had been taken away from my dashboard .. and I have read that .. If an appeal is denied the appellant would have to repay the monies.a?? WOW !! i just really wish i could talk to someone. These months have taken a told my TBI condition //!! which then affects my TMJ m my eyes, my motor skills.. NOW THIS >>? can someone help me with some information./?? or something. I mean they have no idea what is going on with people .. they are lacking the training in Cultural Competency. Thank you everyone and Hello. please stay safe/
Here's a suggestion - rather than disconnect our call - ANSWER please. Oh, and let us know where we are in the queu and/or when to expect a call back. I called at least 50 times the first time, got through and waited on hold for over two hours just to have my call disconnected. NOT A HAPPY CAMPER. Now after 96 back to back calls, I am on hold again. Don't know whether to take the option to get a call back or wait to see if I get to speak with someone or get disconnected again. AND by the way, no matter how much we add, edit, file etc. online, your system provides absolutely NO help whatsoever. Simple programming would allow people to know where they are in the process and help to alleviate frustration, stress and depression this department is causing.
Has anyone received unemployment insurance since the virus began?
Finally got through after dialing 44 times. On hold for over two hours - and call failed. WTF!!! This is completely unacceptable. Now I have to dial another 40-50 times hoping I will freaking get through.
I applied for Unemployment Benefits on May 7th. To date I still have received no payments. All of my certifications are on "Hold." As of yesterday, I have no pending issues and from what I can tell I have been determined "Eligible." When will we actually receive unemployment benefits? How are we supposed to live?
So laid off from work first week in May. Still no unemployment insurance. By everything I can tell on the website it says I'm eligible and no issues pending. Can't get through to the 877 number listed which makes you go through an entire process only to tell you all operators are busy. Call back later. Have called several times for several hours straight and still haven't reached a human. Has anyone else had problems getting their UI benefits?
Is there a problem with the eppicard website? I cant seem to log in since 6/19/20, thank you.
I have been having trouble logging in all morning! Am I the only one with this issue or is the system down????
Is anything being reviewed? Resolution on a simple document? Over 9 weeks now and no movement or notification. What can be done??
Can you please explain why we cannot recertify this week? We cannot reach anyone at all? Is there an error with the system we are still eligible to receive PUA through the end of JULY! Please give us a response.
I have tried and tried to contact unemployment since 4/28/2020 and I have not been able to speak to a representative. I am tired of not getting info on my application and need resolution. Please help. I do not have any savings left.
Can someone please help? My partner's (Charles Lesperance #4832) travel nurse contract unexpectedly ended on May 1st. He applied for unemployment insurance a couple weeks after. The majority of his employment though was in Texas. The New Mexico system asked him to submit proof of wages. He submitted paystubs and W-2s. He mailed them as well as faxed them (I have the fax confirmation sheet). There hasn't been a single update to his account since then and it makes it seem like he didn't submit the wage employer correction sheet along with proof. We're two weeks from having to pay the monthly bills again so we really need that income. We've been calling everyday and getting no one.
