AED is participating in Albuquerque's attempt to attract the U.S. Space Command. Check out this editorial in the Albuquerque Journal, which outlines some of the reasons Albuquerque is a great choice for this project:

"The myriad space-related defense entities housed at Kirtland Air Force Base, including Sandia National Laboratories and the Air Force Research Laboratory, demonstrate the state has the people and brain power to support the Space Command. AFRL’s Space Vehicles Directorate is already leading much of the military’s research and development efforts to modernize space-related defense systems."

AED is engaged in a national search to find the organization’s next president, following Gary Tonjes’ retirement in late July. AED’s search committee, led by Chair Eric Weinstein, has been working with The Pace Group, a well-known executive search firm in the economic development industry, to identify potential candidates. The committee has identified a few finalists and is conducting ongoing interviews with them this month. We hope to have a new president in place within the next few months. Stay tuned for more info.

In the interim, AED is being led by its executive leadership team, including Debra Inman, Annemarie Henton and Beverly Cruz. Gary is currently consulting with AED on select economic development projects. Our project pipeline remains strong, and we look forward to providing an update to the community during our Quarterly Investors’ Meeting on September 17.
