We are pleased to announce SSgt Austin S. Kier, 22 TRS, Fairchild AFB, WA, as the AETC winner of the 2023 Air Force Sergeants Association (AFSA) Pitsenbarger Award.
The AFSA Pitsenbarger Award is presented annually to an Air Force enlisted member who has performed a heroic act, on or off duty, which resulted in the saving of life or the prevention of serious injury and must have placed the individual at risk of personal danger.
Sergeant Kier heroically saved a life by taking action in response to a head-on collision with multiple casualties. He prioritized critical actions and treated life-threatening injuries for a victim requiring immediate care. Furthermore, while continuing critical care, he secured the scene, directing bystanders to call 911 and stop traffic, and continued care while Emergency First Responders arrived and enabled them to aid two others, saving three lives.

Four CV-22s were transported by sea from RAF Mildenhall, England, to Jacksonville, Fla, where members of the 58th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and the 58th Maintenance Squadron were instrumental in preparing the aircraft for the flights to their newly assigned units at Cannon Air Force Base and Kirtland Air Force Base. Starting 30 December, work occurred over five days, maneuvering the aircraft out of the hold of the ship, reconfiguring the aircraft for flight, and then launching for their respective bases.

Team,

Here's the second of two updates from CMSAF on what the DOD and Services are working on for you and your families.

This specifically addresses updates to assignment policy.

Please continue to push information on the challenges you're facing through all the avenues available to you.

Wingmen — more good news…

✅ Assignment priority code changes for our MTI, MTL, and recruiters
✅ No RNLTDs within 120 days from return of deployment
✅ Assignment swap program 🙌🏼
✅ TOS removal for expedited transfers & inclusion of acquitted Airmen

Thanks to the Enlisted Assignment Working Group (comprised of Airmen across the force), A1 and AFPC for making these changes happen.

More to follow.

Read about the changes in the article below.

Teammates - yesterday, the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman, myself, and fellow service senior enlisted advisors met with SECDEF Austin to move out on actions to enhance quality of life of our service members & their families.

Here’s a few of the ways the SECDEF is getting after taking care of you…and this is just the first round:

▪️Institute automatic increases in BAH for AD service members in 28 Military Housing Areas (MHAs) - Oct 2022

▪ Fully fund commissaries to cut prices at the register, with goal of achieving at least a 25% savings on grocery bills

▪ Pay eligible Service members Basic Needs Allowance (BNA) - Jan 2023

▪ Increase Dislocation Allowance (DLA) for E-1 to E-6 - Oct 2022

Again, there’s more work to do…we are listening and taking action.

Organizing safe, effective survival and evasion training for nearly 1,000 people isn’t easy – especially in an austere and unforgiving environment that’s hours from the nearest signs of civilization.

I had the honor and privilege of meeting three individuals from the 58th SOW today, as they honored my father, MSgt. Timothy B. Hadrych. Dad was a gunner on the MH-53 Pave Low for 17 years. His last years active duty were spent with the 551st.

During Operation Desert Storm, his crew performed the first rescue mission behind enemy lines since the Vietnam War. He and his crew received the McKay trophy for this mission, which took place on 21 January 1991.

On 21 January of this year, a CV-22 flew a flag for Dad, not realizing that it was the 30th anniversary of the Devon Jones rescue. They presented that flag to me today.

Dad passed away on 25 February 2020, and his 24 years in the Air Force was still so much a part of who he was.

Thank you to everyone that was involved in this amazing ceremony today. I know that Dad was looking down, beaming with pride as he watched the presentation and listened to the stories being told, and I know he’s proud of the wonderful men and women still serving the 58th SOW.
Thanks for being awesome!! From Vegas 12-04-2020. Go Aggies!! (son is a LOBO)
