🚫 BIG WIN FOR ALBUQUERQUE TAXPAYERS! 🚫

The proposed Gross Receipts Tax (GRT) increase has been defeated.

On June 15, the Albuquerque City Council voted 5-4 to reject Ordinance O-26-42, stopping a tax hike that would have increased the cost of everyday purchases and taken an estimated $113 million more per year from Albuquerque residents and businesses.

Because the measure failed:
✅ Taxes will remain unchanged
✅ The proposal will NOT appear on the November ballot
✅ Taxpayers and small businesses avoid another financial burden

Thank you to everyone who contacted City Council, spoke up, and made your voice heard. Citizen engagement matters, and this vote proves it.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, New Mexico businesses faced the threat of steep unemployment insurance rate increases due to government-mandated shutdowns. Through advocacy and collaboration with state leaders, policy changes were secured that protected employers from major cost increases—saving some businesses more than $1,000 per employee.

🚨 ALBUQUERQUE TAX HIKE ALERT 🚨

After City Council already rejected a major Gross Receipts Tax increase earlier this year, supporters are back with a new proposal that could send a 0.4875% tax hike directly to voters this November.

If approved, this measure is projected to generate more than $113 million per year in new taxes, increasing the cost of goods and services across Albuquerque. The City previously voted down a similar proposal, but now a new resolution seeks to place the question on the ballot.

Working families, seniors, and small businesses are already dealing with rising costs. Albuquerque needs better roads, infrastructure, and city services—but taxpayers deserve accountability and smarter budgeting before being asked to pay more.
