What were you doing at 7:15 this Friday morning? Your NVLF campaign team was leafleting nearly 1000 workers at the prison hospital work site in Stockton. This effort was coordinated with the San Joaquin Building Trades Council and San Joaquin Central Labor Council. It is important to get the word out to all workers about Prop 32. We must defeat this deceptive attack on the middle class.

Tell BART to Buy American!

ATTEND THE MEETING
What: Union Rally Telling BART to
Get a Better Deal
When: Thursday, May 10 at 8:00am
Where: BART Board Room in Kaiser Center,
20th Street Mall, 3rd Floor
344 - 20th St., Oakland, CA

On May 10, BART has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create thousands of jobs for American workers when they vote on a $2.5 billion contract to build a fleet of modern rail cars.
Tell BART to save money for taxpayers and create more jobs for U.S. workers by going back to the table and getting a better deal for America.
BART needs to do one simple thing: bring their top two bidders back to the table. They can insist these train cars be Made in America and negotiate a better deal for taxpayers and BART riders in no time at all. Now is the time to stop the race to the bottom that sends American dollars and jobs to factories in low-cost countries with weak environmental standards and lax safety rules.
What do you think? Should BART use your taxpayer dollars to invest in American jobs? Remember - these are your tax dollars and BART’s Directors work for you.
Tell BART to get a better deal for America!
Visit BARTforAmerica.com to learn more and send the message to BART’s Board of Directors to invest in American jobs.

Female Republican Senators Undermine GOP Claim That War On Women Is ‘Fiction’

http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/04/06/female-republican-senators-undermine-gop-claim-that-war-on-women-is-fiction/

On Thursday, during a Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski became the third female Senate Republican to contradict her male colleagues, calling Republican efforts against contraception an 'attack on women' despite Republican males claiming that there is no war on women.

Public Eye Awards 2012

We have an opportunity to make a huge impact and statement. Currently voting is underway at the Public Eye as to which employer is the worst of the worst, and I’m sure it will come as no great shock to you to find that Vale is in the lead at this time, but not by much.

There are only 24 hours left in the voting. For the sake of our brothers and sisters, and in honor of all brothers and sisters forced to work under employer tyranny, please take one brief moment to effect a big change by casting your vote in favor of workers and against corporate giant Vale. I have posted it on my page and Tweeted it. Please do the same.

Thank you, and don’t forget to get your registrations in for the Rapid Response conference in March. We have some really exciting stuff lined up and you will receive tons of info and tools to use that we will definitely need in this critical year – for sure! Can’t wait to see you!

The link to vote on the Public Eye award is: http://www.publiceye.ch/en/vote/vale/

Vote now for VALE, the worst company of the year!

Prior to his appointment by the International Executive Board, LaVenture had been an assistant to the director of District 12. A native of Wisconsin, LaVenture joined the union when he went to work at an International Harvester foundry in Waukesha, Wis., in 1970 after high school graduation. Once his probation period was up at International Harvester, now Navistar, he joined Local Union 3740 and accepted an appointment as a local trustee. He later served as local union steward and vice president before being elected president of the local, a position he held for five terms. He joined the USW staff in 1989 to service the Milwaukee area in what was formerly District 32. In 1993, he transferred to Concord, Calif., in what was then former District 39. Four years later, in 1998, he moved to Oklahoma as a staff representative to fill a vacancy and a year later became sub director for Oklahoma and Arkansas. Director Bonds asked LaVenture to relocate to Albuquerque, N.M, in 2003 as an assistant director. His duties included, among other things, assisting the staff in negotiations. He was also dues and first contract coordinator. LaVenture also serves on the Advisory Board of the Institute for Career Development (ICD).
