Crime Strategies Unit Arrests Sex Offender

As part of the @fbi Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in New Mexico our CSU team with the help of @BCSONM and @NMAttorneyGeneral arrested David Chavira, 48 years old, for 18 counts of Distribution of Sexual Exploitation of Children and Possession of Child Pornography earlier this week.

Christina Marquez, Crime Strategies Unit Special Agent who worked extensively on this investigation, said child exploitation cases require diligence to reduce the risk of children being victimized.

“The children are our future. We as law enforcement need to protect our future by continuing to be proactive and seeking these individuals out before they have the chance to harm the children of our community,” Special Agent Marquez said.

In order to promote a free, fair and safe election, our office has virtually trained local law enforcement officers on specific crimes and penalties outlined in New Mexico’s election code. In addition, we have set up a special, dedicated hotline to provide legal guidance for election officials or officers who identify disruption, obstruction or voter intimidation at the polls. We will be here until the polls close to answer calls. Our agents are monitoring polling sites to ensure a comfortable voting environment.

“We’re prepared to prosecute anyone who attempts to undermine our nation’s democratic process,” Torrez said. “Everyone, regardless of their political affiliations and views, deserves to have their voice heard by casting their ballot.”
