🌟❤️ 🌟✨❤️ Life's a Dance B. Moss

I am not sure how many will relate to this post, but for a few of you, I hope it helps a little. "The Gift of Grief" is an odd phrase, I know. But for those of us carrying on with decorating our home, baking cookies, stringing lights, and all those other lovely traditions of Christmastime, it can be really hard.

Please understand, I am not advocating wallowing in grief or letting it entirely overwhelm us. But there are moments, when I find it helpful to say to myself -- 'enough already... I am giving you permission to cry.' It's a bit like letting the cork out of a bottle. And then we wipe our tears and get on with it ❤️

In remembrance of our loved ones not with us in body, yet in our memories live on. ❤️

In remembrance of our loved ones not with us in body, yet in our memories live on. ❤️

I cannot tell you
how the light comes.

What I know
is that it is more ancient
than imagining.

That it travels
across an astounding expanse
to reach us.

That it loves
searching out
what is hidden
what is lost
what is forgotten
or in peril
or in pain.

That it has a fondness
for the body
for finding its way
toward flesh
for tracing the edges
of form
for shining forth
through the eye,
the hand,
the heart.

I cannot tell you
how the light comes,
but that it does.
That it will.
That it works its way
into the deepest dark
that enfolds you,
though it may seem
long ages in coming
or arrive in a shape
you did not foresee.

And so
may we this day
turn ourselves toward it.
May we lift our faces
to let it find us.
May we bend our bodies
to follow the arc it makes.
May we open
and open more
and open still

to the blessed light
that comes.

The day my mother died I wrote in my journal, "A serious misfortune of my life has arrived." I suffered for more than one year after the passing away of my mother. But one night, in the highlands of Vietnam, I was sleeping in the hut in my hermitage. I dreamed of my mother. I saw myself sitting with her, and we were having a wonderful talk. She looked young and beautiful, her hair flowing down. It was so pleasant to sit there and talk to her as if she had never died. When I woke up it was about two in the morning, and I felt very strongly that I had never lost my mother. The impression that my mother was still with me was very clear. I understood then that the idea of having lost my mother was just an idea. It was obvious in that moment that my mother is always alive in me.

I opened the door and went outside. The entire hillside was bathed in moonlight. It was a hill covered with tea plants, and my hut was set behind the temple halfway up. Walking slowly in the moonlight through the rows of tea plants, I noticed my mother was still with me. She was the moonlight caressing me as she had done so often, very tender, very sweet... wonderful! Each time my feet touched the earth I knew my mother was there with me. I knew this body was not mine but a living continuation of my mother and my father and my grandparents and great-grandparents. Of all my ancestors. Those feet that I saw as "my" feet were actually "our" feet. Together my mother and I were leaving footprints in the damp soil.

From that moment on, the idea that I had lost my mother no longer existed. All I had to do was look at the palm of my hand, feel the breeze on my face or the earth under my feet to remember that my mother is always with me, available at any time.

The deadlier drug crises that we don’t consider public health emergencies

Let's not forget. Alcohol is a drug and we need to stop ignoring the loss of life due to alcohol abuse.
Be safe this holiday season - Be smart, think before you drink. Many alternatives- UBER. LYFT. Designated Driver on Demand. Friends. Family.

Alcohol and to***co kill far more people than opioids. Should they be considered an "epidemic"?

There's no 'safe' level of alcohol consumption, study finds

There you have it. If you’re going to drink, don’t drive and if you’re going to drive, don’t drink.

If you were thinking of meeting up with friends after work for happy hour, think again. A new global study from the British journal The Lancet found that the safest level of drinking was none.…

OPINION | Politics impeding DWI fight

The Governor dismantled our mental health services several years ago and it's all related with what we're seeing in our impaired driving issue. Very sad and could be addressed if she had any political will to do so. If you can tear it down, you can also build it back. She needs to direct her departments to do real problem solving based on data and research, it would guide them to make better funding decisions. There is no mystery why we see our high multiple offenders...and they keep driving impaired...because they can.

Seriously- we have a drug problem, and lets not forget alcohol is also a legal drug. It's way past the time to address our addictions in a eyes wide open manner. Who profits from our addictions? Not the addict.

Airwaves and billboards are teeming with the New Mexico’s ENDWI message. Why are county efforts getting aced out?

Seriously, What saves lives is not advertising per se, it's the raised perception of the risk of getting caught. SO, highly publicized law enforcement efforts such as checkpoints and saturation patrols work as long as the law enforcement is actually out there stopping drivers. They go hand in hand. We also know messages need to be localized and targeted - ENDWI not as strong as some efforts we have seen in the past. Our DWI death rate has not shifted downward as it should considering the millions of dollars spent in the advertising campaigns.

The ad is, as the governor’s press release says, powerful. A man lies in his jail cell, unable to rest as he’s haunted by the memory of driving drunk and killing a young woman.

Remembering loved ones...

Often the approaching holidays remind us of loved ones we have lost. If the loss was recent, we seem paralyzed and almost unable to face the days ahead. And even when it's been a while, we are surprised at how easily tears still flow. If your heart is breaking, be gentle with yourself and share your feelings with those you love. And if you are on more solid ground, be on the lookout for those who might need a gentle touch, a hug and the opportunity to be brought in closer to your circle of love. We surely need each now more than ever.

Tim Solano gets maximum prison time for his 6th DWI

The way to keep our streets safer is to combine the treatment while incarcerated and continue aftercare when they are released. Even better, treat addiction as a medical/mental health issue before they commit crimes.

Video: Former Santa Fe attorney asks officer for ‘break’ during DWI arrest

This is his 3rd arrest and after killing Mr. Tenorio in 2008, I think he's had enough 'breaks'. To really change these outcomes - vehicular homicide, followed by more DWI's - this state needs to mandate treatment combined with punitive and continue monitoring for sobriety for at least 3 years after conviction. The state's data has shown most offenders can 'behave' for almost three years after conviction and then we see them, often times in fatal crashes. All preventable. New Mexico must step up and provide real solutions to reduce death and injury.

Former Santa Fe attorney Carlos Fierro asks an officer to give him a ‘break’ during recent DWI arrest. He previously served prison time for a deadly 2008 drunk driving crash.

You would think... With as many DWIs in New Mexico and particularly Albuquerque, that they would not be encouraging and advertising alcohol as they do. It seems that DWIs were at an all time high just a year ago and yet last year it seemed that there were multiple bars and breweries that opened up, not to mention the brew festivals that are encouraged by the news! What's the deal?
