Today we broke ground on the Westgate Community Center. In response to the economic toll of COVID-19, we’ve fast-tracked $70 million in construction to support local jobs and keep people working—that includes this project. Southwest Albuquerque is growing fast and we are adding city services to support families in these vibrant neighborhoods.

Health and safety of our community is a priority.

The 49th Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is being postponed to October 2-10, 2021. The health and safety of our pilots, guests, volunteers, sponsors and staff are our top concerns. And while this is a difficult decision, we must stay dedicated to upholding that commitment.http://balloonfiesta.com/files/galleries/2020_Event_Letter_from_Board_President_6_22_20.pdf

Guest tickets, reservations and RV spaces for the 49th event will be unchanged and can be used for the 2021 event. Information on how to get a refund or donate tickets can be found on our 2020 event update page: https://balloonfiesta.com/Post/2020-Balloon-Fiesta-Update

We are saddened by this decision but are looking forward to 2021! Here is link to some of our frequently asked questions:https://balloonfiesta.com/files/galleries/AIBF_Postponement_FAQs_2020.pdf

https://www.abqjournal.com/1487909/suspect-idd-in-slaying-of-mother-of-2-state-police-officers.html It is obvious that Mayor Tim Keller is very sensitive when he said that the suspect was “identified and arrested as a result of the work of APD homicide detectives long before Operation Legend and the U.S. Attorney got involved . … For many months, we have been aware that we were making real progress on the case but couldn’t comment publicly, or push back on a lot of myths being said about our police department.” The problem for Keller is that its no myth that for the past two years during Mayor Keller’s tenure, the homicide clearance percentage rate has been in the 50%-60% range. According to the proposed 2018-2019 APD City Budget, in 2016 the APD homicide clearance rate was 80%. In 2017, Mayor Berry’s last year in office, the clearance rate was 70%. In 2018, the first year of Keller’s term, the homicide clearance rate was 56%. In 2019, the second year of Keller’s term, the homicide clearance rate was 52.5%, the lowest clearance rate in the last decade.
https://www.kob.com/albuquerque-news/bcso-sheriff-gonzales-to-meet-with-trump-at-white-house-/5801144/?fbclid=IwAR0_7fOdEcMuldR9domU_EZWyktl87dqznQj5BDYLonctkyyhMQ1q85qaA0 Sherriff Gonzales is making a very, very big mistake meeting with Trump and AG Barr at the White House without other law enforcement officials such as the New Mexico US Attorney, the District Attorney and the APD Chief and perhaps the County Manager and the city's CAO. The meeting may garner favor with staunch Republican Voters as he seeks to run for mayor next year, but it sure will wind up upsetting many Democrats (progressive, moderate and conservatives) not to mention Independents. Sherriff Gonzales opposition to lapel cameras, red flag laws and sanctuary city policies does not help much either. Trump is already ordering undercover troops, like he has in Portland, to other cities and the last thing Alb needs is for a Bernalillo County Sheriff to go rogue and invite the Feds into Albuquerque assuring Trump of his agency’s cooperation. It is not at all likely Trump will be wanting to just sit there and not want something in return from Sheriff Gonzales. The Sheriff might as well change his party affiliation to Republican before he runs for Mayor.
