Happy Adoption

Jake Peralta (formerly Cooper) was adopted from us in March. His new pet parents sent us all of these wonderful pictures to show us how far along he’s come in the few weeks that they have had him.

When Jake came to us back in January he was very sick and his left front leg had to be amputated due to a severe injury that could not be repaired. He was s shy kitty and preferred quiet times at the shelter. Well, now he is blossoming in his new home and is loving life! He has even started to play with toys.

Congratulations to Jake and his new family! Happy days ahead!!

There is nothing more soothing than having a happy cat, curled up by your side purring gently. Are you looking for a new furry friend? Check out our available cats: https://www.cabq.gov/pets/adoptions/search-for-a-lost-or-adoptable-pet

Hiya! I’m Stryper,

I’m the smoosh of your dreams. I’m a cuddly, squishy, smiley guy. Being that I’m 8-years-old, I’m older, wiser and better in every way! My previous owner said that I spent most of my days indoors but would go outside to potty and play. I’m already house trained and know basic obedience but I do like to pull on the leash when excited. I'm into playing and running around the yard but I really just like to hang out with you.

I like people petting me. It’s always good to know when you are loved! I can make you feel loved too, if you come meet me—I’m good at that. I like to give kisses, and will take treats very kindly if you have some. Do you like to play? I do! They have toys here that we can play with. Do you want to come see them? I would like to play with you. I like meeting new people and love everyone I’ve met. I sure would like to show you how cute I am. Are you heading this way? Listen, I'm not trying to rush you— I just really want to be someone’s best friend…. I think that is really important!

Oh, oh, oh, I almost forgot. I do good with some doggy friends but I always like to meet my furry friends first. Stop by the Westside Shelter to meet me today.

Love and kisses,
Stryper

Wildlife season is among us!! With spring comes lots of wildlife.

This little Western Screech Owl ended up in someone bathroom to take a couple of Zzzzz.... odd place to perch. Animal Protection Officer Couch was dispatched out to the address where he was able to catch and release the healthy owl back into the wild.

Yay!!! Thank you Officer Couch! Stay safe little owl, we wish you well!

PUPPIES!!!

Take a look at these tail waggin', happy-go-lucky, playful pups. These 4-month-old pups have been with us since they were wee little rollie pollie's. When they first arrived at the shelter in February, they were diagnosed with ringworm and had to be treated. As we all know, ringworm can take a bit of time to treat. Well, they got the all clear from the vet this week. They are now ringworm free and ready for their forever homes.

Stop into our Eastside Shelter to meet them. You will fall in love with these sweet and friendly pups.

Remember Bootch?

Bootch was a long term shelter resident that came into our Westside Shelter as a stray 7 months ago. He has had a bit of a hard time adjusting to shelter life. He is a special boy that needed a special type of home. Well, last week Pawsitive Life Rescue of NM heard our plea for a rescue. They searched and searched, and finally found a foster who would be committed to this boy. They welcomed Bootch (now Huxley) into their rescue. One of our dedicated volunteers/ Huxley's doggy advocate, Laura picked up Mr. Huxley from AWD last Wednesday and delivered him to his new foster family.

Huxley will not be up for adoption quite yet, but when he is - you’ll want to consider him. He’s really sweet, smart and fun. If interested, adopt through Pawsitive Life Rescue of NM. https://itsapawsitivelife.com

A great big THANK YOU to Pawsitive Life Rescue for answering the rescue plea, welcoming him into your rescue and stepping up to help Huxley find his forever home. Thank you to the wonderful foster as well for taking a chance on this boy. Sending so much love and gratitude to our fellow Animal Welfare Volunteers for rallying so hard for Huxley. Also, special thanks to Funds for Freedom - Helping Dogs acquire Sanctuary for assisting in funding his new life.

WE ARE MISSING OUR FAMILIES! PLEASE SHARE SO WE CAN FIND OUR OWNERS. These are the stray pets that came into the shelter yesterday. East = picked up on the East side of Albuquerque or West = picked up on the West side of Albuquerque. It does not indicate what shelter they are located at. For more information on stray pets and to see what shelter they are located at please call 311 or visit our website at https://www.cabq.gov/pets/adoptions/search-for-a-lost-or-adoptable-pet. Look under *LOST* or search by Animal ID#.

**PLEASE NOTE: OUR GOAL IS TO GET THESE PETS BACK TO THEIR FAMILIES. **Stray pets are not available for adoption until the end of their stray hold** We are not able to hold/reserve pets for adoptions. Due to the high volume, adoption inquiries of these stray pets via the inbox may not be answered right away. Please visit our website (www.cabq.gov/pets) for the most up-to-date information on adoption and available pets. If the pet is not showing up on our website then he/she has most likely been reunited with their owner.

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR SHARING AND HELPING US REUNIT THESE PETS AND THEIR FAMILIES. THESE POSTS HAVE HELPED TO REUNITE MANY PETS WITH THEIR OWNERS.

Sunday Funday!

Just add water! While some dogs won’t even dip a toe in the water, other dogs are born for the water. Meet Radish. Another super dog that is available for adoption at our Westside Shelter. Radish is a 1-year-old fun, playful guy. So friendly and outgoing. He is enjoying the spring time weather especially now that he gets to play in the pool. Even though he likes the water, he is perfectly happy on land too. Radish is still a playful puppy and likes to run around the yard and play with toys. He would make a great adventure buddy for those outdoor enthusiast. Camping, hiking, swimming and hanging out with friends sounds like fun to Radish. If this sounds like fun to you, then why not add a dog to your summertime adventures?

After Radish gets some of that puppy energy out then he is gentle, well behaved and wants to hang out by your side. Radish is young and eager to learn new things. He is smart and learned how to “sit” rather quickly. He is still learning to walk on a leash nicely. He does pull—you know, sometimes it can be hard for a youngster to not pull on the leash... shear excitement if you know what we mean? Radish is sweet and friendly with everyone he meets. He is also dog friendly and enjoys doggy playtime.

If you are looking for a fun-loving adventure buddy who revels in swimming, dogs and family time fun, then Radish is perfect for you. Stop into our Westside Shelter to meet him today. This guy is really special!

Got newspaper and/or old socks lying around? Need to declutter?
Recycle your newspaper and missed matched socks by donating to the animal shelters.

Your old newspapers can be used to line the bottoms of the rabbit litter boxes, as you can imagine, they get soiled on a regular basis. So we go through a lot of newspaper and are currently out.

Dig into your drawer and grab all the single socks you got. We are looking for socks new or used, single or pairs, holes or no holes, big or small. As part of our enrichment program, we use socks to make crinkle toys for our dogs. The dogs love these crinkle toys! We have plenty of bottles but are running low on socks and need your help.

You can drop off your newspaper donations at our Eastside Shelter location only while your sock donations can be dropped off at either our Eastside or Westside Shelter locations. Donations will be accepted 7 days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. No appointment is necessary. Drop off at the Admissions door or call the phone number that is posted on the door and a staff member will be out to help you. Thank you for your generosity!

Foster Friday

Did you know that we have a list on our website of adoptable animals that are currently in our foster care system? These are pets that are currently residing in a foster home but are looking for their forever homes. They are pets that are not current at any of our shelters. To access the lists go to www.cabq.gov/pets. Click on: Adoptions, then click: Search For a Lost or Adoptable Pet, at the top it will say "Foster Pets": you can click on foster dogs, foster cats or other foster pets.

https://www.cabq.gov/pets/adoptions/search-for-a-lost-or-adoptable-pet

If you wish to inquire about any of the foster animals or have any foster questions please send an email to: [email protected]

The best incentive to adopting a pet from a foster home is that the pet is allowed to get comfortable in a home environment before being adopted. Often times, the foster will work with the pet on housetraining, crate training, basic manners and any behavior or medical issues the pet may have. So it's easier for a pet to get used to your home. The foster family really gets to know the pet’s personality, the good and bad. So you know what you are getting.

Pictured is Sweetface. This snuggly, chonky boy is a couch potato at heart and would like nothing better than to curl up next to you and binge-watch your favorite TV shows. He is quiet and sometimes a bit timid and is just a big bundle of love. His dream is a calm quiet home with no other kitties (or kiddos).
