As of this week, an estimated 46 percent of New Mexicans still have not responded to the Census. The stakes are too high to allow an inaccurate count. The Census is mandated by the Constitution every ten years. It helps determine how much representation we have in Congress and sets federal funding levels that affect schools, roads, and hospitals. For New Mexico, an incomplete count could reduce tens of millions of dollars in critical federal funding in our state's budget. Visit https://2020census.gov/ to do your part and help New Mexico get the resources we need

Managing an Aging Volunteer Corps

So many programs and organizations depend on volunteers that have been with them for years. What happens when those volunteers start to get older? If your volunteers are aging, this session can help. Learn strategies for identifying the signs of aging in place - volunteers who continue to do the same work even though their capabilities have changes - and how to start a conversation about that change. Managing the transition as well as creating new options for aging volunteers will be covered, and we'll discuss what to do when the situation can't be solved amicably. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss challenges. To learn more about this online training "Managing an Aging Volunteer Corps" click the link. https://bit.ly/3eoXmxW

It’s important to stop. Look at the numbers. Learn from them, then pivot if necessary–and that’s where metrics and web analytics come in. They can steer you in the right direction if you know how to interpret them, then use them. Put your analytics to work and make a huge impact on your organization’s success by using all that information to optimize for future messages, fundraisers and campaigns. In the very simplest terms, grants are opportunities to make our world better. From grants that boost the sciences to grants that encourage the arts, grantmaking creates impact and change. Offering a new grant presents a wide range of challenges, and not meeting these challenges head on can mean that your grant doesn’t have the impact that it could. In this online session (How to Avoid Fundraising's Quiet Killer: Donor Attrition), Jay will help us learn how to step off of the donor acquisition treadmill and start revving up donor retention. Seven out of 10 donors give only once, but this doesn’t have to be your reality. Jay will help us understand how a 10% increase in donor retention will more than double the lifetime value of a donor and minimize our reliance on producing constant appeals for new donors. The University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles has announced that it will eliminate tuition for families earning $80,000 or less annually. The university also said that it will exclude family home equity from its financial aid calculations, a recognition that the high cost of real estate in California could otherwise exclude students from working class families from attending. New Mexico’s annual all-day conference about prostate cancer will be held Saturday, November 4 at Sandia Prep in Albuquerque. The time is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is an opportunity for men or women interested in learning more about this cancer, which strikes about one in seven men during their lifetime. This year’s theme is “What’s Next for Prostate Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment.” In addition to a stage-setting review about the history of prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment, there will be talks about scanning tools. Also scheduled is a panel discussion about risk assessment approaches. Much of the afternoon will offer an opportunity to spend some one-on-one time with a New Mexico-based urologist, oncologist, or radiologist. Prostate cancer, which often presents no symptoms, is very treatable if diagnosed early. But, that requires, as a first step, making sure men and their doctors talk about the importance of regular screening. About one in seven men will get prostate cancer in their lifetimes. Recent statistics show that about 1,300 New Mexico men are diagnosed each year with prostate cancer. Most are at least 55 years old; however, men much younger are not immune. For more information, contact the Prostate Cancer Support Association of New Mexico at 505-254-7784 or toll-free at 1-800-278-7678. The web site is www.pcsanm.org.
