Income limits apply, masks required. We've been feeding people since 1989! In 2016, we distributed nearly 3 million meals to over 47 thousand people in Albuquerque and the surrounding areas. Serving an average of 420 households each week, we are the largest food pantry on Albuquerque's west side, and the second largest pantry in Albuquerque. We believe that no child, adult, or senior should be hungry.

Thanks to Silver Leaf Farms and Food is Free Albuquerque, 200 pounds of fresh, locally-grown lettuce went out for distribution to those needing food assistance.

Food assistance agencies have a growing demand for nutrient-dense foods such as fruits, vegetables, and lean protein because low-income Americans have limited purchasing power to acquire adequate amounts of these healthy foods. This leads to higher incidences of chronic, diet-related diseases such as diabetes.

Tomorrow is #NationalSuperheroDay. Helping kids have enough access to healthy food offers them more opportunities for success to become their own Superhero.

Kids who eat regular, nutritious meals are less likely to repeat a grade, experience developmental impairments or exhibit behavioral or social issues. And eating a healthy breakfast is associated with reduced absenteeism, improved cognitive function and memory, and improved mood.

A healthy and adequate diet can also help prevent obesity, osteoporosis, fatigue, decreased muscle mass and type 2 diabetes.

Help us provide children the food they need to succeed, which works to strengthen our whole community.

If you ever wondered how much difference one person can make, take a lesson from Isabella Platero from Health Leadership High School. Isabella chose RGFP for her Senior Showcase Project on food insecurity but after visiting our pantry, community hub and garden, she decided to do more. She sold muffins to raise money and raised enough to feed over 15 individuals for an entire week! Thank you for your big heart and compassion for others Isabella!

Well look what decided to pop up on #NationalGardeningDay.

Enjoy this perennial powerhouse raw, grilled, stir-fried, in soups, eggs, sandwiches, you name it! Asparagus is high in fiber and packed with nutrients including vitamins A, C, E, K, and B6, as well as folate, iron, copper, calcium, and protein. Plus, it’s a rich source of antioxidants that could help your body fight damaging free radicals.

Once planted, let it grow without picking for the first year, then pick lightly for 2-3 weeks in year 2. By year 3, you can harvest for 6-7 weeks and it will produce for 15-20 years! #worthit #superfoods

Late winter/early spring is a great time to start thinking about your nutrition and eating habits. To maximize your food budget, buy in season produce and plan meals before shopping. Instead of eating what you are in the mood for which can lead to poorer food choices, eat what is in the fridge and eat fruits and veggies first which is the healthiest and best choice!

When food rots in a landfill, it produces huge amounts of methane — a greenhouse gas at least 28 times as potent as carbon dioxide. But in compost bins, microbes convert that organic matter into nutrient-rich soil, keeping the carbon out of the atmosphere and producing valuable fertilizer. #zerowaste

We started composting last year with this cute little potato to make fertilizer for our urban garden. Stay tuned for more pics!
