Rio Grande Food Project

Rio Grande Food Project Rio Grande Food Project is conducting two food distributions per week through October 2020. Every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 9:00-11:00am or until food runs out.
(11)

Income limits apply, masks required. We've been feeding people since 1989! In 2016, we distributed nearly 3 million meals to over 47 thousand people in Albuquerque and the surrounding areas. Serving an average of 420 households each week, we are the largest food pantry on Albuquerque's west side, and the second largest pantry in Albuquerque. We believe that no child, adult, or senior should be hungry.

Cucumbers at last! And what a true powerhouse to eat.

The cucumber FRUIT improves gut health (high in fiber), aids weight loss (low in calories), keeps you hydrated (96% water), is great for your skin (anti-inflammatory properties) and is chock full of vitamins (C & K) and minerals (potassium, manganese & magnesium). They also contain antioxidants, including flavonoids and tannins, which prevent the accumulation of harmful free radicals & may reduce the risk of chronic disease.

Best of all, you can grow them in a BUCKET!

The Greater Albuquerque Association of REALTORS® (GAAR) supports local charities through its growing endowment fund for 3-year cycles of $15,000 per year. Today, GAAR celebrated their 100 year anniversary and donated an additional $100,000 to their current cycle grant recipients, Rio Grande Food Project, Saranam LLC and Serenity Mesa Recovery Center. What an incredibly generous and proactive group of over 4,300 members committed to giving back to the communities they serve throughout New Mexico.

Thank you for helping us feed kids, adults and seniors, before and during the pandemic, and now as we open up.

Check out https://www.GAAR.com/events/GAAR-centennial for some very cool history, videos and photos of the development of Albuquerque dating back to 1880 and the role of GAAR which was started with just 20 members on July 11, 1921.

We can’t say enough about the fabulous energy, positive vibes and community spirit of our friends from Food is Free Albuquerque and the unbelievable generosity of our local growers at Silver Leaf Farms who donated, delivered and helped distribute 552 tomato, eggplant and pepper plants today at our food distribution!
Our clients loved the extra gift of a plant they could tend to and nurture to grow fresh veggies in their own gardens or for the very first time. How exciting!

The residents of Mirehaven community are raising money to help us feed our city’s residents. Their campaign is called Mirehaven Gives Back and they have raised over $85,000 for local non-profits over the last few years. Their recent Mirehaven Bloomin’ Garden Tour was a huge success thanks to the residents who opened up their homes for tours, those who purchased tickets and to the caring sponsors who supported this event. And the gardens were GORGEOUS!
