City Councilor Cynthia Borrego

Congraultaions Cynthia Borrego, it is a big night for voters in ABQ, and big night for Bosque Strategies.

Seven months ago I got in this race because I was sick and tired of the direction this city was headed, the crime that plagues this city has to stop, we must bring back our economy, and we must invest into our children's education. This has been a hard fought race, and I am humbled by tonight’s results, voters are hungry for real change, they want to be taken seriously and make sure the issues are actually being addressed.

On day one I will work with Mayor-elect Keller to reform APD, and help get crime under control.

I want to thank every single volunteer who gave time out of their busy days to help my campaign. I want to thank every voter who believed in me, I will work tirelessly and won't let you down.

I want to thank Tim Keller, the ABQ firefighters, ABQ police officers, AFSCME, Planned Parenthood, EQNM, CLC, Sierra Club, Senators Heinrich and Udall, Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham, Attorney General Hector Balderas, City Councilors Gibson, Pena, Davis, and Benton, Commissioner Debbie O’Malley, PRC Commissioner Valerie Espinoza, State Treasurer Tim Eichenberg, Brian Colon, Patricia Madrid, James Lewis, Javier Benavidez, Marty Chavez, Debra Haaland, Cheryl Harris, Idalia Lechuga Tena, Marjorie Germain, the Democratic Party of New Mexico, Bernalillo County Democratic Party, and State Rep Daymon Ely, and many many more. I am humbled by all the support.

Let's get to work!

Steven Michael Quezada County Commissioner District 2, the next Bernalillo County Commissioner for District 2 who isn't afraid to speak out even if it is unpopular. We are devastated by Hillary's loss nationally like everyone else, New Mexico was a beacon of blue nationally for Hillary and all Democrats up and down the ballot thanks to her State Director Scott Forrester. New Mexico has become a reliable blue state, with healthy turnout from the top of the ticket and everyone working together we can sustain this into future election cycles. #alwayswithher

Also a congrats to Maggie Toulouse Oliver our next NM Secretary of State, Brian Egolf our next Speaker of the House, and Peter Wirth the next Senate Majority Leader. We lost a great leader in Senator Michael Sanchez, his leadership will be missed.

We are proud to have been involved with these great Democrats who will make outstanding public servants.

Now it's on to the next adventure.

Proud to see Bosque's own Scott Forrester taking the lead in delivering New Mexico to our next president!

If you know Scott, you know how strongly he believes in Hillary Clinton, her vision and her ability to deliver real results for New Mexicans.

So you also know what a big deal this is for him - and that there was no better choice for the job! Congratulations, Scott!

City leaders eye new taxes, more use of utility reserves

Thank you for your vision and leadership Mayor Gonzales:

"The proposal, intended to provide city staff with a framework as they draft a budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, also calls for $4 million in unspecified spending cuts and $2.5 million in increased debt collections and fees to help close a the projected budget deficit.

Meanwhile, Gonzales said during his annual State of the City address that he also wants to use millions of dollars in water utility surplus funds — built up after years of rate increases — to fight poverty and combat climate change.

The mayor proposed that the city invest $50 million in cash reserves from the city water division with the State Investment Council. He declared that he would do “everything in my power” to get city councilors to support what he calls the Santa Fe Verde Fund, an initiative he discussed when he ran for mayor two years ago."

Santa Fe Mayor Javier Gonzales and at least half of the City Council on Tuesday proposed that the city raise taxes and continue to tap the city-owned water utility in the form of a $4.7 million franchise fee to help close an estimated $15 million budget shortfall.

Elections Have Consequences

A great read, elections do have consequences:

"Now, to be fair, some widely predicted consequences of Mr. Obama’s re-election — predicted by his opponents — didn’t happen. Gasoline prices didn’t soar. Stocks didn’t plunge. The economy didn’t collapse — in fact, the U.S. economy has now added more than twice as many private-sector jobs under Mr. Obama as it did over the same period of the George W. Bush administration, and the unemployment rate is a full point lower than the rate Mr. Romney promised to achieve by the end of 2016."

Breaking: Judge issues injunction on New Mexico teacher evaluation

Elections do matter, and Bosque Strategies was proud to work with and help elect NM District Court Judge David Thomson. A great win for teachers and New Mexicans. Thank you Judge Thomson.

"A state district judge on Wednesday temporarily blocked the Public Education Department from using its teacher evaluation system to make employment, advancement and licensure decisions until a trial is held next spring.

Judge David Thomson granted in part a preliminary injunction sought by legislators and a teachers union, who have challenged the evaluation system in a lawsuit.

Thomson said his order prevents PED from enforcing its evaluation system until “a trial on the merits where the court can be assured of the statistical validity of the data collection and reporting that feeds into the system.”

The judge said his order “does not stop the PED’s operation, development and improvement” of the evaluation system, but it bars the department from taking “consequential actions” against teachers based on it."

Let's dream big again for ABQ

"I encourage Albuquerqueans to vote yes on the one-eighth of a cent initiative to improve our quality of life projects and, in so doing, enhance our children’s opportunities and their future. It’s finite and time limited, but it will serve as an eternal testament to our belief in ourselves as a community."

Pope’s speech a wake-up call

"So if there is one lesson we take from the historic visit by Pope Francis, let it be that politics is the means by which we come together to accomplish something greater than ourselves, an “expression of our compelling need to live as one.” And maybe in the process re-discover a little of the values of sacrifice, humility, and love for our fellow man that helped us build America."

State of the City: Mayor aims to boost education, film business

Mayor Javier Gonzales gave his first State of the City speech, it was a good one, read all about it below:

“During the campaign, one of the things that I promised the community is that to solve our most pressing problems, we have to act in a collaborative way,” he said. “The mayor has the ability to convene people and to get a dialogue going in ways that will define a problem, but more importantly, create a solution.

Congratulations to Barbara Petersen for ABQ School Board! Winning a five way race by 63% is no small feat.

We were proud to be apart of this campaign. We all should feel a bit better about our public schools with Barbara Petersen on the board.

Now the hard work begins. Good luck, Barbara.

After six weeks of amazing support and great conversations, this campaign has ended in a great victory for everyone that worked so hard. I am excited to bring forth all the ideas from this campaign and to start working to make our schools what they can be.

Barbara Petersen for ABQ School Board

Barbara Petersen is fantastic candidate for ABQ school board.

As a teacher Barbara she has spent over 35 years investing in the future of Albuquerque. For the last 30 years she has been a teacher at Valle Vista Elementary School where, over the years, she taught every grade, supported professional growth as an Instructional Coach, and supported struggling readers as a Reading Recovery Teacher and reading interventionist.

She now wants to serve our community in a different way, as a school board member.

City of Santa Fe Announces New Public Information Office Hire

Candidate selected after open, competitive interview process – will focus on City efforts to engage in interactive communication with residents across multiple platforms about the work to make the City Different stronger every day

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Monday, August 25, 2014

Contacts: Matt Ross, PIO; (505) 955-6045; [email protected]

SANTA FE, N.M. - After conducting a public search process spanning four weeks and considering dozens of applicants, City Manager Brian Snyder announced today that he has hired Matt Ross as the city’s next Public Information Multimedia Administrator.

The Public Information Multimedia Administrator is the City of Santa Fe’s key facilitator and support for communication, both within the City government and with the Santa Fe community.

Announcing the hire, Mr. Snyder said, “Our priority was to hire the person we found most capable of helping make sure Santa Feans have three things: a government that works for the people, access to information about the exciting work their city is doing, and open channels through which we can hear from them.”

He added, “After an extremely competitive, transparent application process, and an interview process that included me, our chief of police, our emergency manager, and our interim IT department director, we are very confident we have hired a key part of the team to best serve Santa Fe.”

On his first day at work at City Hall, Mr. Ross said, “I couldn’t be more excited to be here and getting to work for the people of Santa Fe. There are so many amazing things happening in this city right now, and it’s a dream come true to join this team of hard-working people with a clear vision for the future of this community.”

Mayor Gonzales, who has worked with Mr. Ross in the past, commended the City Manager’s decision, saying “I’ve seen a high quality of work from Matt in the past, and I’m confident in the judgment of our City Manager and the independent interview committee that he’s the right choice. I’m looking forward to working with him again on one of our top priorities: improving the way we are communicating with Santa Feans about the city we all love.”
