We are so incredibly proud of our team who have worked tirelessly during this pandemic to provide programming and meals to families across the city.

Just want to take a moment to thank all of our community center employees who have stepped up during corona to hand out meals and provide over 150,000 hours of child care for essential workers.

Please consider donating some school supplies! Donations are accepted at all CABQ community centers!

We know that school will look different this fall, but kids will still need school supplies no matter what. We are accepting donations for our annual Cruisin’ Into the School Year school supply drive until August 5 at all City community centers. Visit cabq.gov/family to learn more.

Information about youth programming will be announced in the coming weeks.

#onealbuquerque

Like thousands of parents, Liz and I are paying close attention to the announcements about schools this fall due to COVID-19. Though necessary, we know that ongoing changes to the school schedule are incredibly hard on working families. Our City’s before school, after school and summer school programs always play an important role for nearly 30,000 kids and their parents, and are now more crucial than ever. We reached out to APS and are working to step up and fill as many gaps as we can for working parents. We’ll announce more information about our kids programs in the coming weeks.

Today at Fire Station 11, AFR along with Family & Community Services, and the Station 11 crew held a traditional “Push In” ceremony with the newly acquired Engine 11. The Engine along with all of the equipment was purchased by the Hud Community Development Block Grant. Engine 11 is the second busiest truck in the AFR fleet and serves the SE Heights neighborhood near San Mateo and Zuni. The traditional ceremony pays homage to the days of backing in a new apparatus by hand. Albuquerque Area Firefighters IAFF Local 244

I'm writing to you today concerned about being denied unemployment insurance on Workforce Solution's online application system as an independent contractor or 1099 worker. My work has been suspended by the COVID-19 guidelines. I had understood from the media that "gig workers" such as myself would be allowed to claim unemployment benefits. I filed taxes last year and also this year but the UI claims system "bot" denied my claim as ineligible and offers no recourse for appeal. The phone line for Workforce Solutions is too busy to get through. I just spent my last $100 on food. Now I am broke and will run out of food in about 10 days. Is there any way you can help me? Thanks in advance.
