“If MS can’t beat us, COVID doesn’t have a shot. This was already my normal. I was already making conscious decisions — like quarantining after travel, washing my hands religiously and having zoom meetings when I couldn’t go out — because I live with a chronic disease. I appreciate everything going virtual. It gives others a chance to see what it’s like to live with MS.” ~ Diane Kramer, diagnosed 2010, MS Activist / Keep Moving Forward Panelist

Cooking with multiple sclerosis isn’t always easy. There can be a lot of standing in a hot kitchen that can bring on MS symptoms. Chris Holland, three-time winner of the cooking competition show “Chopped,” offers up some tips for cooking with MS. BONUS! There’s a recipe, too. https://ntlms.org/2YYRlmT

"'You don’t look sick' is something that many people living with MS hear. Many of our symptoms are not visible for others to see and not every person with MS experiences the same symptoms. Some of my symptoms include daily fatigue, heavy legs, muscle weakness, pins and needles in different parts of my body, electric shocks in my back, hand and feet constantly falling asleep, headaches, cognitive impairment and more. Then there are new symptoms that come with new lesions. It’s important to know that not every person with a disability looks the same. You never know what someone is going through. People can be going through the worst of the worst and still look good during it all."

Pedal los Pueblos – I Ride with MS Ambassador: Joleen Trujillo| Wobbly Riders

"My story begins in 1995 when I was first diagnosed with MS. It was a major shock and it really changed my whole world. It was several years after my diagnosis before I found the MS Society in New Mexico and I really wish I had found them sooner.

It's strange to say that being diagnosed with MS could ever be a blessing but without that first diagnosis I never would've found the absolutely wonderful and caring friends and community that the MS Society has provided me. They have been there for me through
some really tough times in my life and have always been willing to help any way they could. When my swamp cooler broke in the middle of the summer and it was 98 degrees in my house they were there. I barely had money for basic bills at that time, let alone
to fix it, and they blessed me with a new one.

I enjoy Walk MS, but Bike MS is my true love! I began riding in Bike MS in 2009. I was so amazed that everyone remembered me and my birthday, which is always right after Bike MS weekend. The love, thoughts and continued prayers from my Bike MS family is so
incredibly beautiful and thoughtful! It still brings me to tears just thinking of the love and support.

The MS Society does so much more than just raise awareness and money for MS. They are a loving community of people who help and support one another through everything! You will never feel alone with them in your life and as a person fighting with MS you will
always have a fellow warrior by your side encouraging you to never give up!

I will continue to raise money and awareness for all of us living with MS. It is so important to support our local Bike MS event in New Mexico. Please join us in our fight to end MS forever!"

All my love, Joleen

Pedal los Pueblos – I Ride with MS Ambassador: Beth Ulibarri | Miles and Trials

"After being diagnosed with MS in 2012, I wanted to do something to try to make a difference for others that are affected by this disease. I have participated in the New Mexico MS Bike Ride every year since my diagnosis. It is always an uplifting weekend getting to ride in beautiful Northern New Mexico with friends and family, all while raising money and awareness for Multiple Sclerosis.

This year will be my 9th year riding in Bike MS – and while it will be different than in previous years due to the pandemic, my amazing team and I will still be riding 150 miles and fundraising for this great cause."

-Beth

Pedal los Pueblos Club 25 – Top Fundraiser Highlight: Cat Christoffersen

"For a very long time (I've lost count) I have been riding in Bike MS, raising awareness and funds to fight the horribly devastating disease called Multiple Sclerosis. During my fundraising efforts, I have come to know neighbors, acquaintances, and colleagues
that either have MS or know someone with MS. People experience MS to differing degrees, and no two days are the same; no two treatments are the same. That is why this fight is so important.

The first time I rode in Bike MS, I wanted to finish my first century! I did it, but in the process of riding for two days with fellow cyclists, I found the amazing experience that is Bike MS!! Ride those 150 miles every August to reconnect with my fellow riders,
my Bike MS friends (JORGE!), and the amazing volunteer team members.

This year is just as important as every other year for raising funds and awareness for MS. And maybe even more so due to workforce reductions, loneliness, loss of companionship, inability to get regular treatment/therapy, etc. that our friends with MS face!
Having MS presents challenges many of us do not realize; things we take for granted like hopping into the car for a quick trip to get milk from the store. Our friends with MS either need to hire someone to shop for them, schedule a van shuttle to and from
the store, or do without. Be thankful and show your gratitude by donating funds to Bike MS this year!

The NMSS is planning a fun virtual event wherein you can participate by riding inside or out!! The fun part of this year's ride is that YOU get to pick YOUR ROUTE! Make it fun, make it crazy and make it challenging!!! Connect with others who are enthusiastic
about the cause through the virtual event! A couple teammates and I *might* try Everesting! Yikes - that's a challenge.

JOIN us this year for a super fun event for a super fantastic cause! And, please DONATE your FUNDS - it is extra important this year!" - Cat
