La Grande, OR — Employer Support of the Guard and Reserves (ESGR) is pleased to announce that Kevin Loveland, owner of Loveland Funeral Chapel, has been honored with the Patriot Award and has formally signed an ESGR Statement of Support.

Mr. Loveland was nominated for this prestigious recognition by his dedicated employee, Nancy De Anda, in appreciation of his unwavering commitment to maintaining a highly supportive and accommodating workplace for military families.

Mr. Loveland’s leadership is defined by a genuine dedication to his staff and a profound appreciation for the unique sacrifices made by military families. By proactively accommodating the scheduling and family demands of military service, he has created an environment of empathy, respect, and civic responsibility. This supportive workplace empowers Nancy De Anda to thrive as both a dedicated professional and an active mother, while providing her husband with the peace of mind necessary to focus fully on his critical duties within the National Guard.

ESGR is committed to strengthening the relationship between service members, their civilian employers, and their communities. Events like this are a great reminder that supporting our Guard and Reserve members extends beyond the workplace—it means showing up, building partnerships, and recognizing the sacrifices made by our service members and their families.

Florida ESGR is excited to be participating in the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States (EANGUS) Annual Conference in Daytona Beach.

Roger Trout, Florida ESGR Volunteer and Chair Emeritus, is staffing the ESGR exhibit and is ready to answer questions!

That’s a wrap! ESGR has successfully concluded the National Leadership Meeting. It was a powerful three days of collaboration and strategic planning between ESGR HQ staff, our dedicated volunteer leadership, and key stakeholders.

Volunteers collaborated in regional breakout sessions to analyze metrics, share best practices, and develop a way forward for Fiscal Year (FY) 2027.

Mr. John Sampa, ESGR National Chair, swore in the State Chairs who will be serving a second, three-year, term. A huge thank you to the volunteer leaders who have chosen to extend their service!

Frank Huff, VA Volunteer, surprised the group with an ESGR relic. He found a Statement of Support from 1974 signed by ESGR’s first Executive Director, James M. Roche.

Mr. Sampa closed the meeting by expressing his profound gratitude to our current and incoming State Chairs, as well as the Board of Directors, for their unwavering commitment to employers, our Reserve Component Service Members, and the nation.

Our volunteers are the heartbeat of this mission, and we are moving into FY27 stronger, more aligned, and ready to further the mission!

Day two of the ESGR National Leadership Meeting was packed with insightful discussions and recognitions. Here’s a look at our key moments:

Our headquarters staff and subject matter experts led vital conversations on strategic communication, employer outreach, and volunteer recruitment. A special thank you to Jayni Sech, CUDE Ohio ESGR Public Affairs Director, for sharing her professional expertise on branding and marketing.

We were honored to hear from Gen. Carden, Vice Chief of the National Guard Bureau. He shared critical perspectives on strategic transformation and the challenges facing today's service members in a shifting global landscape. He also took a moment to recognize ESGR HQ’s newest staff member, Capt. Lindsey Wagner. Welcome aboard!

Congratulations to Col. Morin, USPFO NH, and Kenan Torrans, DOL VETS, for receiving the Seven Seals Award. ESGR Director, CAPT Darren Bess, presented the honor to recognize their unwavering commitment to the program.

We concluded the day with remarks from Ms. Ann Lee, Director of the Personnel and Readiness Management Agency, who thanked our volunteers for their dedicated service.

We were honored to hear directly from senior DoW leadership — including Rear Adm. Richard Lofgren, Acting Chief of Navy Reserve with Force Master Chief Rios and Lt. Gen. Jonathan Stubbs, Director of the Army National Guard with Command Sgt. Maj. Kendrick on the current operational tempo of the Guard and Reserve.

We also want to thank Joshua Volz, Special Envoy for Global Integration at the Department of Energy, for providing for providing a global perspective on today’s evolving security environment.

A massive thank you to our featured employer speakers from The Walt Disney Company , Kevin Preston and Austin Brock, for sharing their incredible "Heroes Work Here" program and proving why hiring military talent is good business.

We look forward to diving into the operational mission with our 54 state chairs tomorrow!

Two hundred and fifty Soldiers and Airmen were sworn into the Maryland National Guard by Gov. Wes Moore and Maj. Gen. Janeen L. Birckhead, adjutant general of Maryland, during a historic ceremony celebrating America's 250th birthday at the Fifth Regiment Armory, July 17, 2026. The ceremony brought together new Guard members taking the oath of enlistment for the first time, current service members reenlisting, and officers accepting new commissions.
