Alexandria Mayor William D. Euille has announced the appointment of seven members to a Waterfront Plan Work Group, based upon recommendations submitted by City Council members. The Work Group will focus on determining areas of consensus on the Waterfront Plan, and identifying, categorizing and narrowing differences on the concerns that residents have raised.

On June 28, Alexandria City Council adopted a resolution to establish a Waterfront Plan Work Group composed of 1 non-voting City Council Member, 5 At-Large Members, 1 Waterfront Committee Member, and 1 Old Town Civic Assn Member. Meetings are anticipated to begin in July, once the Group is appointed.

Staff has released a memorandum detailing all of the questions posed by City Council at the May 14 Public Hearing. Please see the memo which has been posted on the City's Waterfront Website, www.alexandriava.gov/waterfront . Staff will be working to address these questions and more in the coming weeks. City Council has also scheduled a worksession for June 11, 2011.

For those anxiously awaiting the release of the Waterfront Small Area Plan, an updated schedule has been posted. There will be a community meeting in December, and the release of the Draft Plan for public review and comment will follow in January. For more details, please visit www.alexandriava.gov/waterfront .

As always, we welcome and thank you for all of your comments. Staff is listening! The work on the Draft Plan has synthesized comments on the Concept Plan and will better detail the planning response to the concerns we've heard thus far. Please plan on attending the December community meeting/open house, where many of the bigger issues will be discussed in detail, and when you all may again share your opinions on the Plan. Thank you!
