Good everyone do you help people to find out more about their grandparents and great great grandparents
An interesting story about DNA solving mysteries of our ancestors.
So disappointed today to miss the Family Search meeting. There was not one parking spot available and after going around several times I gave up and came home. This is truly an indication of how popular the Center and the genealogy sessions have become. Teaches me not to arrive at the last minute anymore.
There are openings for docents in Washington, DC at The American Revolutionary Institute of the Society of the Cincinnati. Here are the details from an announcement that I received today: "Do you have a passion for American history, historic sites, or the decorative arts? Would you like to share your passion with others? The American Revolution Institute of the Society of the Cincinnati has an immediate need for volunteer museum docents. Docents create a memorable and enlightening experience for visitors of all ages by leading guided tours of the Society's headquarters, Anderson House. The mansion, a National Historic Landmark, was completed in 1905 in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Here, we interpret the significance of the achievement of American independence and the creation of the Society in 1783, as well as the lives of the home's first owners, Larz and Isabel Anderson. Available docent shifts are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m., as well as Sunday, 12 to 4 p.m. Docents serve at least two weekday shifts or one weekend shift per month. Training is provided, as well as continuing education and fellowship opportunities through field trips, lectures, and more. Duties: • Welcome and orient visitors to Anderson House; • Provide guided tours of the first and second floors; • Assist with visitor services. Qualifications: • 18+ years old; • Enjoy working with people; • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills; • Interest in the American Revolution, the history of Washington, D.C., and/or historic sites. For more information and to apply to be a museum docent, please contact Catherine Harris, museum education manager, at [email protected] or 202.495.7127. Learn more about the Society and its museum on our website." This is all I know about the position.
