Happy Memorial Day Everyone! We are thankful for and honor all who have served! #HappyMemorialDay
Since 1986, Rebuilding Together DC • Alexandria and our amazing volunteers have provided free home repairs to in-need neighbors and community spaces.
Our Vision: Safe homes and communities for everyone.
Rebuilding Together is a nationwide 501(c)(3) Together, with our corporate and community partners, we repair homes, revitalize communities and rebuild lives. Rebuilding Together’s local affiliates and nearly 100,000 volunteers complete about 10,000 rebuild projects nationwide each year.
Rebuilding Together Alexandria impacts the overall quality of life for residents in the City of Alexandria in many ways including maintaining affordable housing, revitalizing communities, and stabilizing low- and moderate-income areas by eliminating blight in many neighborhoods. We are dedicated to repairing and rehabilitating homes free of cost for those in need, including the elderly, persons with disabilities, military veterans, and families with children. Since 1986, this non-profit organization has been committed to donating home repairs to the in-need families of our Alexandria, Virginia community. Learn about our history. We are part of a national network of over 200 affiliates, making Rebuilding Together the nation's largest nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership and to revitalize neighborhoods by providing home repair services free of charge to those in need. Rebuilding Together Alexandria has many programs that support our mission: National Rebuilding Day --The core initiative of Rebuilding Together Alexandria is National Rebuilding Day when volunteers provide free home repairs for low-income homeowners. Veterans Housing --We assist veterans, active-duty service members and military families maintain safe and accessible housing. Safe & Healthy Homes --This initiative allows the elderly and people with disabilities to age in place by addressing home repair and maintenance issues that present safety risks or limit access to and within their home. Energize Alexandria --Our green housing program saves homeowners money on utility bills and provides healthier home environments and communities through energy efficient home repairs and weatherization. Rebuilding Together Alexandria is a gift of volunteered time and materials given to repair the homes of homeowners who are physically or financially unable to perform these repairs. Because of the work RTAs volunteers do, physically-challenged recipients become more self-sufficient with greater home mobility, most elderly clients age-in-place for many years beyond the repair year, and families don't have to choose between feeding their children or fixing a leaking roof. RTA provides repair services year round, but the emphasis of our volunteer projects still focuses on National Rebuilding Day -- held every year in the month of April, and is the culmination of volunteer rebuilding events leading up to the last weekend of that month throughout communities in the United States. Nearly one thousand volunteers give their time and skills to help local families with home repairs
Mission: Repairing homes, revitalizing communities, rebuilding lives.

Ida's roof was falling apart during a pandemic, but you saved the day with your generous support. See the before and after photos and let us thank you for standing by us and the members of our community who need you most!
Exactly 1 year ago, on May 13, 2019, this incredible team of Fannie Mae volunteers worked through heavy rain to help us revitalize Oxon Run Park! They built horseshoe pits and flower beds for a community garden. Their hard work is still making an impact on this DC community today! #waybackwednesday
1. Help your elderly neighbors: Groceries, Check-ins, and Writing Cards
Our program staff has been calling to check in on our residents. When one client answered, she said “You’re the first person I’ve spoken to in days.”
You can help alleviate loneliness through regular check-in calls, video calls or texts, and/or sending photos, fun articles, puzzles, adult coloring books and other items to help keep your loved ones and neighbors feeling connected. Consider writing a card for our elderly and veteran clients who would be very appreciative!
Additionally, if you have elderly neighbors who can't make it to the store, offer to pick up groceries and other supplies and offer to bring them meals several times a week -- you can arrange to leave them on the porch so you don't risk spreading germs.
2. Buy gift cards and support small businesses:
Support local hardware stores - buy gift cards and donate them to Rebuilding Together DC Alexandria! You’ll be supporting small businesses and elderly residents in need at the same time!
THANK YOU! You raised $2,930 yesterday for your neighbors in need. Without you, many of your neighbors would be forced to stay home in unsafe conditions - but you've changed that.
If you didn't get a chance to make a gift yesterday, it's not too late!: https://bit.ly/3cbywBq
Our Board Chair shares why he supports our mission and why you should too!

Today is the start of #NationalRebuildingWeek!! 🛠
Although our National Rebuilding Day has been postponed, we want to celebrate and thank all of our Supporters and Volunteers!
Thank you for supporting our neighbors in need of critical repairs through these uncertain times! #RebuildingTogetherDCA #volunteer #supporter #appreciationpost
Thanks so much to everyone who donated to our Spring2ACTion campaign! We raised a grand total of $12,020. Please click on the video below for a message from President and CEO Katharine Dixon.
Your generosity and commitment to serving your neighbors, even in times of crisis, are what hold our community together. As we speak, a woman in our community is receiving a new roof. Because of you, we can give more low-income homeowners the free critical home repairs needed to help them stay at home, preventing the spread of COVID-19. You also support the brave contractors that we rely on to do this work safely.
Spring2ACTion may be over, but our work isn't. If you didn't get a chance to donate yesterday, you can still make a difference: https://bit.ly/2VHouBd
A story told with Adobe Spark Video.
Thanks so much to everyone who has already donated to our #Spring2ACTion campaign! We're so grateful for the generosity that so many of you have shown during these uncertain times.
Because of you, we'll be able to support local businesses who are still going out to provide emergency repairs for our neighbors.
If you haven't had the chance to give to our Spring2ACTion campaign, you still have time! The deadline for us to reach our goal is 11:59 pm tonight: https://bit.ly/2VHouBd
You have raised $9,710 so far! You can help your neighbors shelter in place safely.
While we battle COVID-19 together, Rebuilding Together is ensuring that our neighbors have the ability to stay home safely, too. The pandemic has hit us hard, but we are working harder to find ways to take care of each other.
We have neighbors who are forced to stay home when their home isn’t safe. Help support the brave work local contractors are doing to provide emergency repairs as we all try to stay at home: https://bit.ly/2VHouBd
You have raised $5,195 so far! All gifts today have DOUBLE the impact thanks to a $3,000 matching grant from the Mason Hirst Foundation and a $3,000 matching grant from Mike and Suzanne Dawson.
Last year, your neighbor Carrie reached out to us with severe water damage to her roof. She, with her grandchildren, used buckets to scoop water to prevent a seemingly inevitable flood, but we were able to step in and provide the repairs she desperately needed.
You replaced Carrie's roof by supporting last year's Spring2ACTion campaign. Your contribution prevented tens of thousands worth in damages to her home and gave her and her family a safe and healthy place to live.
Our volunteers are unable to provide any repairs as we practice social distancing. But if you #Spring2ACTion, you will provide critical repairs for your neighbors in need and support local contractors on the front lines: https://bit.ly/2VHouBd
You have raised $2,250 so far! Your gift today, of any size, will be matched up to $6,000 by a $3,000 matching grant from the Mason Hirst Foundation and a $3,000 matching grant from Mike and Suzanne Dawson.
We're in this together!

National Rebuilding Day projects have been postponed to Saturday, September 26, 2020 to protect our clients and volunteers from the spread of COVID-19.

Today marks the beginning of National Rebuilding Month! 🛠 #rebuildingmonth
This month is an opportunity to celebrate Rebuilding Together affiliates and those who work together year-round to serve veterans, older adults, families with children and victims of disaster by providing them with a variety of critical, safe and hame home repairs!
Properly working windows and doors are extremely important especially to prevent not being able to quickly get out of your home in an emergency situation.
**See the other recommended tips in previous posts for additional ways to ensure your home’s safety and your health!
Many of the clients that we serve are forced to use their ovens and stoves to heat their homes due to non-functional HVAC systems which exposes them to severe safety and health hazards. We work to ensure the homeowners we serve across DC and Alexandria have functional HVAC systems to alleviate their concerns of potential house fires and exposure to CO. #RebuildingTogetherDCA #fridaythoughts
It is especially important now to check and find ways to better maintain your home since children are currently spending more time at home, putting them at an even higher risk of exposure. #ThursdayThoughts
A well-maintained yard will prevent the potential long-term damage to your home and your health. #wednesdaywisdom #tipoftheday
#tiptuesday Check and make sure your home has an unexpired fire extinguisher and functional smoke detectors/ CO detectors.
This week, we will be providing some home safety tips for you to consider. Since many of us are spending more time at our homes recently, you can use some of this time to assess the safety of your homes.
To ensure the health and safety of our clients and volunteers and prevent the spread of the coronavirus, National Rebuilding Day projects have been postponed to Saturday, June 6.
**If the public health concern is still enacted, we will consider rescheduling the June 6 date as well.
