#Militaryfamilies have experienced the emotional trauma of deployment on an unprecedented scale. Differing coping strategies are needed through five stages of deployment. Education of health care providers, military leaders, soldiers and family members to anticipate these stages is crucial to ensure the soldier's safe return and to minimize familial trauma.

"Thank you so much for our grants that we received! Both girls were so excited and loved opening their Top Secret folders. This is so amazing and allows them to continue ballet while their dad is deployed without the financial hurdles. Plus, it helps retain some sense of normalcy for them both. Thank you again so much!" - Rachel, Lauren (5), and Cassie (3) 🌟

Through Nov. 11, we are providing an ADDITIONAL activity grant to children, ages 3-18, of service members deployed overseas with the National Guard or Reserve! Apply online at https://www.ourmilitarykids.org/apply!

You Are Not Alone: Navigating Mental Health

Unfortunately, #mentalhealth stigma exists, and there is no exception within the military. The good news is that the stigma is starting to change, and people are beginning to view the importance of mental healthcare similarly to that of physical healthcare.

Navy Reserve

Watch this humorous video from Navy Reserve on how as reservists we cannot "double dip" while on active duty orders. Nonetheless, "Don't give up the chip!"

Don't double dip!

#NavyReserve Sailors who are also federal government employees may not be aware of legal restrictions on working as a civilian and receiving General Schedule (GS) pay while on active duty orders. Here is a summary of rules to avoid any improper civilian payments during periods of active duty.

Federal law (5 USC 5536) prohibits a Reservist on active duty from working in a civilian capacity with the government at the same time.

A GS employee cannot concurrently receive pay for their civilian position while also executing active duty orders. Exception: if a GS employee is in an appropriate civilian leave status – such as military leave or annual leave – they can continue to receive civilian pay while serving on active duty.

Work for the government in a civilian capacity while on active duty is incompatible with the member’s actual or potential military duties even if civilian work performed during “off-duty” time.

Contact your civilian HR office or your legal office with questions or concerns.

MyNavy HR shared some new uniform changes for the Navy.
10/30/2020

MyNavy HR shared some new uniform changes for the Navy.

Your concerns have been heard. The Navy has now authorized a new and more recognizable rank tab for optional wear.

Note: The camo version is still authorized for regular wear as is the new option. However, camo must be worn in tactical and training environments when camouflage protection is needed.

SUBJ/NAVY UNIFORM POLICY UPDATE//

RMKS/1. This NAVADMIN announces an update to the Navy uniform
policy. Navy uniform policy updates directly support Sailor 2025
objectives to attract and retain the very best Sailors by finding
greater flexibility in our policies and practices, including
uniforms. Navy uniform policy updates are the result of Fleet
feedback, command sponsored requests and direction from Navy
leadership. This uniform policy update authorizes optional wear of
the cold weather parka (CWP) rank insignia on Navy working uniform
Type III (NWU Type III) components. Approval of this policy change
is based on the feedback received from the Fleet via the rank
insignia wear evaluation, question of the day video responses
regarding insignia options and ongoing complaints regarding the
limited visibility of the camouflage pattern NWU Type III rank
insignia.
2. Alternate NWU Type III Rank Insignia.
a. Effective immediately, the CWP black slip-on rank insignia
is authorized for optional wear on the NWU Type III parka, black
fleece liner and shirt for E-4 through O-10 personnel unless
otherwise prescribed for tactical operations and training. When
tactical operations or training requires complete camouflage wear,
the NWU Type III camouflaged pattern rank insignia will be worn.
(1) Description. The insignia consists of solid black
fabric with color thread (gold, silver, scarlet) denoting the
wearers rank. The back of the insignia is sewn together in the
center to form a loop which facilitates placement on the NWU Type
III rank tab.
(2) Manner of wear. Slide the insignia right side up on the
rank tab of the NWU Type III parka, black fleece liner and shirt
rank tab.
3. Questions regarding this NAVADMIN should be addressed to Mr.
Robert B. Carroll, Navy Uniform Matters and Emerging Issues Branch
(OPNAV N13X), via e-mail at robert.b.carroll(at)navy.mil,
CMDCM(SW/AW/IW/EXW) Marisol S. Dumlao, Deputy Head, OPNAV N13X, via
e-mail at marisol.dumlao(at)navy.mil or ETC(SW) Ryan P. Cameron,
OPNAV N13X, via e-mail at ryan.p.cameron(at)navy.mil.
4. Feedback and recommendations regarding uniform policy, uniform
components and uniform availability are welcome and can be provided
via MyNavy Portal at https://www.mnp.navy.mil/, select Professional
Resources, U.S. Navy Uniforms and *Ask The Chiefs.* Feedback can
also be provided via the MyNavy UNIFORMS App.
5. Retain this NAVADMIN until policy changes are incorporated in
reference (a), superseded or cancelled, whichever occurs first.
6. Released by Vice Admiral John B. Nowell, Jr, N1.//
