There are a number of changes coming this Sunday, Sept. 5 to both the DASHBus and Metro Forward networks serving Alexandria. These are intended to provide frequent, all-day bus service in places where more people can use it and promote equity among riders.
In addition to the completely redesigned DASH Bus Route system, changes to Metrobus include routes along 7A, 25B, and 28A, more trips on the 28A and 29K/N, and the return of the Metrobus 8W route. These Metrobus service changes were developed in coordination with the New DASH Network and will help improve regional bus connections in Alexandria.
DASH is eliminating fares and WMATA is simplifying their fare structure to make transit even easier and more affordable to use. Additional improvements to the Metrorail system are coming this weekend as well.
GO Alex, City of Alexandria, Virginia has resources to help with your commute, whatever mode you choose and can be a one-stop resource with links to both DASH and WMATA changes: alexandriava.gov/Goalex or link directly:

EVENT :: The City is offering a variety of resources to help residents, visitors, and businesses plan for Metro’s closure of all stations south of the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Station from May 25 to September 8, as part of its Platform Improvement Project.
On May 22, the City will host an open house to answer construction-related project questions and assist with trip planning. Representatives from the City and its GO Alex, City of Alexandria, Virginia program, Metro, DASH, and other entities will be on hand to answer questions about traveling through the region this summer. Metro staff will be available to answer questions about the network of free shuttle buses available this summer, the project work plan, construction noise, and other impacts associated with the project. The Open House will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Oswald Durant Arts Center (1605 Cameron St.), and will be drop-in style (there will be no formal presentation at this event).
Following the Open House, the City will hold an online virtual information session, from 8 to 9 p.m., to answer additional questions about the Metro closures. The session will be accessible on the City’s website and page.
Panelists from the City and DASH will take questions about preparations for the platform work and station closures, and how customers can plan now to get around during the summer. Questions may be submitted in advance at alexandriava.gov/GOAlex, or asked live during the online session, via social media, text (703.405.8902), or by phone (703.746.3300). A recording of the session will be available online after the session ends.
