SUNDAY SHOUT OUT! During the pandemic, Meg has been busy volunteering -- meal and grocery distribution with ALIVE!, ACPS meal distributions and delivery, and food pick-ups for Food Rescue. For her, one of the silver linings of this experience has been the strong sense of community that has shown itself in Alexandria and beyond. Meg explains, “Volunteering has offered me an opportunity to contribute to that spirit, and has also put this crisis into perspective for me by seeing firsthand some of the communities hardest hit. Many of us have some extra time right now, and I can't think of a better way to use it. It is much more fulfilling than another Netflix binge, I promise!” Way to go Meg - You Rock! #VolunteerAlexShoutOut If you would like to join Meg helping during COVID-19, please click on volunteeralexandria.org/careforcommunity

Please volunteer if you have a teenager boy at home with an interest in France. I have one French student without a host family coming July 8-28. Malo age 16 loves the outdoors, sports and pets. He's a fine young man and wants to improve his English and learn more about America. I have several activities planned for our students, but I'm only allowed to host one myself. If your family can help out, please contact me right away. This is a pic of one of my exchange students helping my grandson learn to ski. I thought y'all might like a snowy picture on this hot day!
The Foundation for Women’s Cancer (FWC) is recruiting volunteers for its 10th National Race to End Women’s Cancer on November 3rd! This race began ten years ago and has become the main fundraising and awareness event for the FWC. It brings together all walks of life, from survivors to doctors, in hopes to support women who have fallen victim to gynecologic cancers. Below the belt cancers affect thousands of women. Many don’t even know if they’re at risk. The FWC works hard to raise funds for research, education and awareness of gynecological cancers. The American Cancer Society estimated in 2019 nearly 110,070 women would be diagnosed with some form of below the belt cancer, and 32,120 would die from the disease. That could be a mother, friend or sister fighting for her life. You could help make a difference. Interested? Come join our team and volunteer! In addition to filling a need and supporting the movement, you will have a fun, enjoyable time with like-minded volunteers who truly care about ending women’s cancer. All volunteers will receive a Race t-shirt, a rewarding experience and our gratitude. Volunteer opportunities are open to all family members, friends, neighbors and work colleagues with the following opportunities: Registration Survivor Tent Bag Drop Start/Finish Line Photo Booth Food and Water Distribution Information / Volunteer Registration / Lost and Found Tent Packet Pick-Up (Friday in Washington, DC or Saturday in Reston, VA) So please feel free to respond to me with any further questions or tell me where you would like to help at [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you!

Greetings! Our team of Alexandrian locals is planning this upcoming Halloween to host a charity haunted house in the city, the proceeds of which would go to local nonprofits. We want this experience to be a unique local attraction, bringing more tourists to the area, and providing a venue for pushing good causes further. Right now, we are looking for potential co-host partners for this event. While we bring marketing and event planning experience, we want to start engaging with the local non-profit community more actively. If you are interested in working with us and or know an organization interested in becoming a donation recipient, please reach back out to me ([email protected]). Also, if you know others with a possible interest, please let me know. Thanks!
