OUR PRINCIPLES
WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO:
We believe electrical energy – the electron - is an underwriting currency of future civilized peace, progress, and prosperity. We believe in equal access to electricity to provide the universal ability to do increasingly productive work and create improved wealth and well-being worldwide. We believe we must challenge the status quo in all areas dealing with
the creation, distribution and use of electricity to achieve this. We believe all quarters of society – industry, government, academia and the general public - must focus on harvesting renewable and clean electrons, distributing them efficiently, and using them effectively, irrespective of locality or economic status. We believe public electrical infrastructure needs to have a ‘bottom-up’ architecture administrated in a highly democratic, free-market manner where each entity has equal access to the supply, demand, and delivery portions of the system. We believe the strength of these systems should be derived from ‘weak’ transactive cooperation by all participating entities. We believe there needs to be a new, more practical, economic and innovative definition and standardization of electrical systems to realize the promise of our beliefs. We believe we are fundamentally motivated by the opportunity for wealth and well-being our work enables for all who share our beliefs and are willing to act on them. We believe making electric energy universally and ubiquitously available will fuel innovation in the performance and nature of work, including the ability to create novel and improved electro-active physical environments. HOW WE DO WHAT WE DO:
We are an open membership, non-profit, member funded non-government organization (NGO) comprised of industry, government, academia and individual representatives who share a common vision and set of goals. We provide a stimulating interactive environment for like-minded thought leaders in the field of electrical energy and its relationship to human sustainability and progress to collaborate, cooperate, inform, educate, pool resources and otherwise act to achieve their shared vision and goals. We create vanguard standards for configuring clean renewable energy electrical systems. We create forerunning standards for collecting and distributing electrons generated by these sources in largely self-configuring, self-healing and resilient electric power systems. We create leading standards for interconnecting and using electricity in the simplest, most efficient, most effective, reliable, and safest manner. We promote the understanding and use of our standards by equipment manufacturers, system and building design professionals, the electrical and construction trades, building and home owners, building occupants and the general public. We encourage the adoption, adaption and use of our standards by other standards and regulatory organizations. WHAT WE DO:
We have committees creating and maintaining standards for hybrid ac/dc electric systems for the following domains:
o Commercial Building Occupied Space Microgrids (Ver. 1.1 Issued)
o Commercial Building Desktop/Task Level Microgrids (Ver. 1.0 Drafted)
o Commercial Building Campus & Whole Building Microgrids (Ver.1.0 In-process)
o Commercial Data Center and Central Office Microgrids (Ver. 1.02 Issued)
o Residential Building Microgrids (Ver. 1.0 In-process)
We plan to have committees create and maintain standards for hybrid ac/dc electric systems for the following additional domains:
o Remote Access (off-grid) Building Microgrids (Now Organizing)
o Commercial Retail Building Microgrids (In Planning)
o Cooperative and Private Community Microgrids (Pending)
o Industrial Building Microgrids (Pending)
We have committees working on educating and promoting the marketplace on the benefits, architecture and use of our standards who oversee the following activities:
o Tradeshow and industry conference participation
o Qualified product listing services
o Whitepaper creation and distribution
o Public Relations – News releases and trade papers, presentation and articles
o Public website messaging and content
We provide membership and program support services to our committees and member organizations including the following:
