ADL - Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative

ADL - Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative The Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative improves learning and training through innovative research and technology. The Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative focuses on innovating the way we learn and train individuals in the military, industry and academia.

ADL conducts research and development efforts that are focused on principled learning sciences and technologies. It provides technical implementation guidance and develops open-source/government-owned standards and software. The ADL community is comprised of government, individuals, organizations, international partners, and industry providers/team members - all focused on innovating learning. ADL, through a series of Broad Agency Announcements, offers opportunities for industry to participate in the innovation process and to design compelling and effective learning tools and technologies. Through its international partnerships, ADL facilitates global collaborations in targeted research areas. To become a partner, or learn about research topics, please visit the ADL website: http://adlnet.gov/

The open-source Competency and Skills System (CaSS) is designed to serve as a competency management resource for the DoD. It provides an infrastructure enabling competencies, competency frameworks, and competency-based learner models to be managed and accessed independent of any given learning management system, course, training program, or credential.

Are you interested in learning more about the Total Learning Architecture and how it works? Do you want to see what it takes to connect your learning systems to the TLA's interoperable data architecture?

The ADL Initiative has just released a 'how-to' guide for working with the TLA. This document is targeted to developers who are interested in connecting their learning technologies to the TLA Reference Implementation or establishing their own sandbox for integration and testing against the TLA's data interoperability standards. The TLA Standup Guide provides detailed instructions for standing up numerous open-source platforms and utilities that enable the sharing and common interpretation of learner data across organizational boundaries.
