WATERMELON FIELD DAY at EREC
A Watermelon Field Day will be held at the Edisto Research and Education Center in Blackville, SC on July 14. The field day will begin with registration at 8:00 a.m. at the office complex at EREC. At 8:15 a.m. an indoor session will be held in the EREC auditorium.
Indoor Program Topics include:

Awesome day at USC Salkehatchie! We hosted our first
Mystery Robotic's Challenge. Eight teams from Blackville, Barnwell, and Hampton competed for top honors. Hampton Team Kaden was Grand Champion, Macedonia Elementary won Core Values, Barnwell Team 4 won Highest Table Score, and Hampton Team 8 won Best Program & Design. Congratulations to all of the teams who participated.

Hard work pays off. The girls' robotics team at Macedonia Elementary have worked on this mission all week and finally got it! Great Job girls, now the boys have two missions to catch up.

Southeastern Summer Nuclear Institute:
What: SSNI will feature nuclear science fundamentals,
information about career pathways,and tours of:
* Vogtle nuclear energy facility in Burke County, GA
including control room visits, simulator exercises,
meetings with nuclear power reactor personnel.
* Savannah River Site (SRS) near Aiken, SC including
radioactive waste management facilities and the
Savannah River National Laboratory.
* Augusta University overview of nuclear medicine
facilities and procedures.

Where: USC Aiken
Who: Middle and high school teachers from Georgia, South
Carolina and other states with interest in nuclear
technology applications and promoting student interest in
STEM related careers are invited to attend.
Purpose: To promote nuclear education and workforce
development in the southeast.

South Carolina 4-H is honoring the legacy of former Senator Clementa Pinckney by instituting a 4-H Pinckney Leadership Conference this summer June 26 through July 2nd at Clemson University. It is open to ALL YOUTH. They do not have to be a 4-Her. Registration fee is $100 and there are partial scholarships available. Please help us promote the program through your 4-Hers and Schools. We would like to get a good mix of youth from around SC. Due to the fact it is a pilot year we will only be taking 100 youth.

Closing and Community Service Project. Shared and led by AJA student Carey Herndon, students cut out pieces of denim to make shoes for children in Africa. After our part is done, the materials will be sent to the company for soles to be attached and sewn together.
Youth Leadership is a program that is designed to teach students about the agencies and businesses in their county while developing leadership skills. Sixteen schools, public and private, from Allendale, Barnwell, Bamberg, Hampton, and Colleton Counties participate in this program.

Teachers and students participated in an indepth workshop for National Computer Science week's "Hour of Code".
Through a partnership with Allendale County 4H, students programmed Mindstorm robots, compled an obstacle course with Spheros, studied water quality, and built sailboats for the Raingutter Regatta.
In March, all Youth Leadership groups from Allendale, Barnwell, Bamberg, Hampton and Colleton Counties visit the SC State House, State Museum, and visit the USC Columbia campus.
