Saturday snippet, "My, how things have changed division": J. A. Miller and Wm. Morgan made the trip from Allens to Estes Park Sunday via the Ford route. This is the first time that a car ever made the trip in January. The Daily Times (Longmont), January 29, 1925

While I’m sharing… How about this pic of Glacier View scenic overlook, circa 1955. That bus, as I’m sure we all know, was a Flexible Clipper—with vista dome! Also, you can’t see the chipmunks, but I’m sure their descendants still tell stories of the great peanut feasts Grandma and Grandpa had back in the day.

Hey, AP fans! I just discovered the second earliest picture of our little town. Before it was a town. I'm guessing this is between 1896 and 1900. The two buildings in the foreground are located where Johnny Mack's gas station was built 25 years later. Across to the left would eventually be Crystal Springs Lodge. In the back right is Hirschfeld's store and post office, built in 1896. Wowzers!

Does anyone have, or are you willing to take, an artistic photo of Miller Rock from the north, e.g., Hwy 7 or thereabouts? It needs to be representative of the view one gets from the north.
This will be published in the Wind's next Allenspark history book. Please contact Edie DeWeese, deweese.edie(at)gmail.com

How cool is this?! Be sure to buy your new Colorado stamps (and all your stamps) from the Allenspark post office—your support helps keep this valuable service in our town.

Colorado’s 150th birthday is getting a special stamp! 📬🎉 On Jan. 24, the U.S. Postal Service will issue a commemorative Forever stamp honoring Colorado statehood, featuring an iconic image of Jagged Mountain in the San Juans, taken by John Fielder, with a first-day ceremony at the History Colorado Center in Denver. A great way to celebrate our state’s history and send a little Colorado pride across the country. I know what I’ll be putting on my mail!

Come to the festival! This Saturday in downtown Allenspark. And I’ll be there with a history booth—stop by and say hi!

Mark your calendars for a day of small-town fun with mountain flair! The first-ever Wild Turkey Fest will be held this Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the heart of Allenspark, CO. This brand-new community celebration promises music, food, games, and prizes for all ages.

The day kicks off with a hearty pancake breakfast at the fire station, followed by a town-wide scavenger hunt where participants can compete for the grand prize: an 8'x8' Tuff Shed! Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy live music, local vendors, a farmers market, fun contests, and plenty of food and drinks..

Kids will love the coloring contests, games, and family-friendly activities, while adults can strut their stuff in the costume contest, Turkey Calling Contest, and the crowd-favorite Turkey Strut. With entertainment, shopping, and prize drawings throughout the day, there’s something for everyone.

The Wild Turkey Fest is more than just a celebration — it’s a chance to enjoy the beauty of the Rockies while experiencing the warmth and energy of a close-knit mountain community.

HEAVIEST TRAVEL EVER KNOWN
[Editor's note: Shocking!}
Longmont Daily Times, August 24, 1922

A register of the number of automobiles passing a given point near Allens Park going and coming thru the South St. Vraln canon was kept by Ranger N. E. Miller one day recently [counted] up 60 cars per hour for the entire day.
