PUBLIC MEETING CANCELLATION NOTICE:

The October 26, 2026, meeting of the Alpharetta City Council has been canceled due to changes to the agenda that leave only two remaining items.

The items originally scheduled for discussion will be addressed at the next regularly scheduled City Council meeting on November 16, 2026. A revised agenda and meeting notice will be posted in advance.

CITY COUNCIL UPDATE: Monday evening City Council approved an Intergovernmental Agreement ("IGA") requesting Fulton County's participation in Alpharetta Tax Allocation District #3 ("TAD") for the North Point Sports & Entertainment District ("Project"). Today, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the IGA to use the County's share of its TAD increment for the Project. The Project is projected to increase the TAD's taxable digest by $976 million, or 374 percent, from the certified base of $261.2 million as of December 31, 2025 to approximately $1.24 billion by 2040. It estimated the Project will support 5,000 to 6,900 permanent on-site jobs (midpoint about 6,000). The Project, TAD, and Fulton County increment are conditioned on the NHL awarding a franchise to the North Point site by August 24, 2031. Redeveloping a regional shopping mall is difficult. Alpharetta has an amazing opportunity to make it happen. Thank you Fulton County Board of Commissioners.

Today I had the opportunity to participate in Alpharetta Fire Department's Live Burn Training as part of the training and certification of our firefighters. I learned a lot. Firefighters work in a very unpredictable and high stress environment. For starters, their turnout gear including air tank weighs 50+ pounds. Temperatures inside this burning structure exceeded 800 degrees and the work environment exceeded 120 degrees. The heat is physically taxing. The smoke is blinding. I was unable to see my hand in front face. I couldn't see walls, doorways, obstacles, or people without a thermal imaging camera. The thick smoke made breathing impossible without an airtight air mask and a 45 minute air bottle strapped on my back (I was consuming the air at a much faster rate). My take aways from the experience: it is intense, disorienting, strenuous, and dangerous work. Alpharetta's firefighters are trained and equipped to protect life and property. I gained a much greater appreciation for our firefighters from this experience. Thank you Chief Brad Denkinger and the men and women of the Alpharetta Fire Department for your service to the community and allowing me to walk in your boots for one morning.
