One of those is to “provide for the public welfare” and we take this to mean that all Americans should be equipped with the resources and skills required to succeed and pursue fulfilling lives. Understanding tha
t this nation is made up of many diverse groups, some less prosperous than others, we assert that government has a responsibility to assist those in need. Citizens pay taxes for p***c services, to maintain public property, and to fund programs aimed at assisting the disadvantaged among us. A responsibility towards one another motivates this system. As Democrats, we believe in a government whose functions include aiding the poor, the homeless, the displaced, the oppressed, and all others who just need someone to lift them up onto their feet. Justice and equality are principles we stand by, and our vision is inclusive.
