Nuestras Raices is partnering with Landscape Interactions to plant a native windbreak that will improve soil health, support at-risk native pollinators and improve growing conditions for our farmers. This is a large planting project, and we need lots of helping hands to make it happen! Whether you can stay for an hour or the whole event, we’d love to have you join us.

Parking:
Please park at the Holyoke Rows lot down the street. We’ll be working in the back of the farm field, past the demonstration lot and wooded area. If you have trouble finding us, call or text when you arrive and we’ll help guide you.

For us here at Landscape Interactions every day is pollinator day, every week is pollinator week and every month is pollinator month. That’s because all of our projects target at-risk pollinators and wildlife through design, planning, data collection and community engagement, in our constant and varied efforts to restore, rebuild and rewild biodiversity at every scale.

This week we are proud to launch The Future Looks Like Whately: Planting Resilience through Nature-Based Soutions, a two-year collaboration with the Town of Whately, Massachusetts to create three designs for town-owned properties that support 126 at-risk bee, butterfly and moth species utilizing a wide range of Nature-Based Soutions including bioswales, rain gardens, riparian buffers, meadows, permeable pathways and native lawn alternatives. Funded by an MVP Action Grant through the EEA, this unique project merges climate resilience planning with biodiversity restoration efforts at the site and regional scale.

If you’re in the area please join us tonight at 6 PM at the Whately Town Offices to flip through a copy of the plan and meet some of the community stakeholders who were co-collaborators in the design and planning process.

Some fun we’ve been having over the past few weeks (part three): renovating sections of an old field that are dominated by non-native vegetation and monocultures of saplings to prepare for the installation of highly diverse custom seed mixes this fall.

Some fun we’ve been having over the past few weeks (part two): co-presenting Healthy Soil through Biodiversity: Replicable Models for Resilience at the BSLA FIELDDAY Conference with project collaborators Rubén Parilla, Soil Technical Services + Education Director, NOFA/Mass and Sister Anna Gilbert-Muhammad, Food Sovereignty Director, Pocasset Pokanoket Land Trust. Funded by a Healthy Soils Action Grant through the Massachusetts Healthy Soils Initiative.
