We were dispatched along with our Mutual Aid partners last night at 20:42 hours for a report of an attached garage fire at 262 Williowridge Drive. 2nd Asst. Chief MacDougall arrived in under 1 minute and reported heavy fire from the garage and extending into the house. Engine 1 arrived and advanced a 2 1/2 inch line to work on the garage and also to protect the exposure next door. Next in crews advanced 2 - 1 3/4 inch attack lines to the 1st and 2nd floor of the home, Multiple issues hampered efforts in the garage. Gas tank on the vehicle in the garage ruptured and a propane tank also stored in the garage had the relief valve release. Great work by all crews. Thanks to the following Getzville Fire Co., North Bailey Fire Co., Brighton Fire Co., North Amherst Fire Co., Twin City Ambulance, Amherst Emergency Services, Amherst Fire Inspectors, Amherst Police, Erie County FC2, Erie County Chaplain ES14 and for the 2 Firefighters from East Amherst for the assist with the Hydrant.
Ellicott Creek was dispatched along with our Mutual Aid partners to a report of an apartment fire at 4285 Chestnut Ridge Road this evening. We arrived to find heavy fire out of the patio doors of the apartment. The resident of that apartment was rescued from the fire by one of our Probationary Firefighters and another resident. They both lived in two other apartments in the same building. The actions of these two Men undoubtedly saved this residents life. And they should be commended for their selfless act. Our first in crew made quick work of knocking down the fire in the well involved apartment. We want to thank the following for their assistance. Getzville Fire Co. North Bailey Fire Co. Eggertsville Hose Co. Brighton Fire Co. North Amherst Fire Co. Twin City Ambulance. Town of Amherst Emergency Services. Amherst Police and Amherst Fire Control.
We would like everyone to meet Addison. She turned 8 years old today and her Mom asked us last week if we would like to participate in her Birthday parade. We couldn’t say no and showed up to help make her day special. Please help us by commenting and wishing her a Happy Birthday. Thanks to Getzville Fire Company and the Amherst Police for helping out. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ADDISON!!!
Last night at the beginning of our 75th Anniversary, we had the honor of marching in as one in front our our family and friends. Thank You to the Greater Buffalo Firefighters Pipes & Drum’s for coming out and bringing us in!!
We completed the sale this evening of our old E1, a 1992 Pierce Lance to the Forestville Fire Department in Chautauqua County. Chief Kyle Barthel picked her up and is making the delivery to his members. We wish them luck as she has served us well for many years and will serve them well for many years to come. Safe Travels!!
Video from our open house burn demonstration this afternoon. First burn was put out by our members, second burn was put out with simulating a sprinkler in the home. Thanks to everybody who came out to our open house today, we hope you had a great time and learned something!
Earlier this evening we received a Still Alarm from Amherst Fire to assist in rescuing a few ducklings from a receiver in the parking lot of Classics on Niagara Falls Blvd. Assistant Chief Stith along with Lieutenants Bob Zacher and Chris Robinson arrived and worked to remove the 6 Ducklings from the receiver and reunite them with Mama Duck. With all of the calls we take on a daily basis, whether with good outcomes or bad, it always helps to have a good out of the ordinary rescue to make us smile a bit more. Thank You to Traci Bissonette for the videos that she sent over.
A lot of posting this weekend as it was a busy one. Last one. Below is helmet camera video from FF Mike Frase. First in attack line from the fire at 192 Glenhaven Drive. Had to edit it down due to length. But it gives you a great sense of what our firefighters encounter inside a structure fire.
While number of our interior firefighters are attending G.R.I.T at Getzville fire Station. Our officers took time to work with some of our new members on some of the skills to get them ready for basic exterior/ interior fire fighting classes.
