Ellicott Creek was dispatched along with our Mutual Aid partners to a report of an apartment fire at 4285 Chestnut Ridge Road this evening. We arrived to find heavy fire out of the patio doors of the apartment. The resident of that apartment was rescued from the fire by one of our Probationary Firefighters and another resident. They both lived in two other apartments in the same building. The actions of these two Men undoubtedly saved this residents life. And they should be commended for their selfless act. Our first in crew made quick work of knocking down the fire in the well involved apartment. We want to thank the following for their assistance. Getzville Fire Co. North Bailey Fire Co. Eggertsville Hose Co. Brighton Fire Co. North Amherst Fire Co. Twin City Ambulance. Town of Amherst Emergency Services. Amherst Police and Amherst Fire Control.

This is something we felt we needed to do. We respond along side Twin City day in and day out and appreciate all of the EMT's and Paramedics answering the call. We know what they are dealing with everyday and felt they needed our support. Enjoy the food and Stay Safe and Healthy.

We are also taking this chance to challenge all of the Fire Companies in Amherst to Pay It Forward.

We’d like to take this chance once again thank the staff at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital for all that they have been doing during this crazy unusual time. Not only MFSH but to all the doctors and nurses who are doing everything possible and spending lots of time away from their families. There are not enough “thank you’s” to really show how appreciate the community is. Here are some photos of this amazing event we got to be apart of tonight!

Hey everybody we are leaving our station with our very special guest heading up Denrose and making our way through the north side of Willowridge. that’s everything above Willowridge. Drive and South Ellicott at this time.

In the interest of brightening the faces and sprits of the Children in our district. This Friday 4/10/20 starting at 6:00 PM, we will be parading around the fire district with the Easter Bunny!!! This is similar to the Santa Run we do every year. Except we will not be stopping along the route or allowing the Easter Bunny to come off of the truck. For the best interest of our firefighters and you the residents, we ask that you stand in your driveways and wave as we go by, so we can all follow Social Distancing. We hope this helps the spirits of everyone during Easter. As always, we cannot give exact times for each street, but i guarantee you will hear us coming!!

A Very Important Message from your Ellicott Creek Volunteer Fire Co. regarding COVID-19:

The leadership of the Fire Company is in constant contact with Local, County and State Officials and receives the most up to date information available regarding this pandemic on a daily basis. All information that is received is reviewed thoroughly and is then disseminated to the First Responders clearly.

To keep our Firefighters and others safe. We have closed both of our Fire Stations at 45 South Ellicott Creek Road and 3000 Sweet Home Road to any and all visitors or the general public. Which means for the foreseeable future Members will only be allowed in the Stations.

During this time of uncertainty we ask if you require an ambulance, for any reason, please be patient with the dispatchers at our local dispatch centers. The dispatchers will ask a series of questions that allow us to better understand your medical needs and the required levels of protection that are needed to keep everyone in the community as safe as possible.

Depending on the symptoms that are described over the phone, when arriving on scene our crew may be in full protective equipment including masks, goggles and gowns. Please don't be alarmed by this extra layer of protective equipment, this is to protect you, our responders and the community as a whole.. They will enter your home as quickly as possible while making sure that extra precautions are taken and the equipment is correctly and safely put on. Once our first responders are on location they may ask you the same questions that were asked by the local dispatch center and request that you go into greater detail when answering. This is to ensure that the first responders on location have all of the correct and most up to date information regarding your incident and that it is handled safely for everyone involved..

Most importantly for the safety of the First Responders if you have already tested positive for COVID-19 or have had contact with someone that has tested positive for COVID -19 and are now in need of hospitalization we kindly ask that this information be transmitted to the local dispatch center when placing the call as well as to the representatives of every First Response agency that you encounter when rendering assistance to you or anyone with you. This is to ensure that you receive the most appropriate care in regards to your situation and to ensure that we keep our first responders safe to handle other emergency calls going forward.

Furthermore, if you need to be transported to a hospital we may not be able to honor your request as to which hospital to take you to. This decision may be made by Erie County Department of Health which determines the current capacity and capabilities of all of the hospitals and what could better suit your needs.

Please know that the volunteer members of our Fire Company are committed to serving the residents In a safe and efficient manner keeping you, our responders, and the community as safe as we can as we navigate through this unprecedented time.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of Life Member Ron Smeller. Ron passed away this afternoon after a short Illness at the young age of 57. He joined the Fire Company in May of 1982 and held the past rank of EMS Captain and had been elected to serve in 2020 as Corresponding Secretary. Ron spent his career in the WNY EMS Community as a Paramedic and worked for Amherst Columbia Ambulance, Towns Ambulance, Lasalle Ambulance, Rural Metro Ambulance, Twin City Ambulance as well as Mercy Flight over the years. He was a great Paramedic and enjoyed teaching whenever he could. During the Statewide Mutual Aid request on 9/11/01, he was part of a team of Members from Ellicott Creek that answered the call and spent time in Lower Manhattan helping whomever they could. Ron will be sadly missed and will forever be remembered by all.

A huge shout out to Twin City Ambulance Paramedic Allison Feng for coming out last night to put on a great drill for us. We got to learn about their new powered stretchers and were able to become familiar with them for further emergency calls. Along with that, our firefighters were able to look over the ambulance and equipment that is carried on the truck. There is always something new to learn in EMS. Thank you Allison!
