Blocked Hydrant vs. Cleared Hydrant

Are the fire hydrants in your neighborhood clear? Not having hydrants clear is a significant negative impact if there is a fire at your home. Help us help you! Time is of the essence.

The Amherst Highway Department is preparing for the anticipated storm that will start this afternoon and continue thru part of the weekend. We are requesting that residents do not park in the streets even during the daytime hours if at all possible. The less vehicles parked on the streets the more thoroughly and efficiently we can clear the roads. We will have trucks out at all needed times throughout the storm but with difficult changing conditions and blowing snow anticipated our clean up may be delayed at times.

Today marks a very bittersweet day for us here at Ellicott Creek. Today is the last day Chief Osika remains in office. Chief Osika has done so much in his 6 years as Chief, 9 years as an Assistant Chief on top of all of the years he has served as a line officer. Chief Osika has accomplished so much during his time, we have opened our second station on Sweet Home Road, purchased two new Rosenbauer engines, received multiple grants for equipment such as helmets and SCBA’s. He has played a vital role throughout this pandemic and has always put his 110% into this company. We appreciate the time you have put in the make this company better than ever before! You have done a great job leading this department and shaping up the officers and newly elected chiefs to continue on! Even though his time has ended as a Chief, Joe will still be an active firefighter and continue to take calls. Chief, we appreciate all that you have done and it has never gone unnoticed. You have touched many lives throughout the years and we look forward to riding on the firetrucks with you now! Congratulations on a job well done!

Over the last two months the fire company has gained 6 new members, 3 of those coming from another fire department! Our officers have been taking the time to meet with the large group to start introducing them to basic firefighting skills! Tonight officers went over our hose loads and how to deploy them. As you can see in the photos below it is always important to ensure the hoses are not kinked and flaked out properly.

Welcome to the company guys, we are thrilled to have you!

Bridges freeze first! When expecting precipitation and freezing temperatures, remember that before the ground freezes, bridges can already be at or below freezing. Use caution on bridges and pay attention to the road to stay safe.

Ellicott Creek Firefighters assisted Brighton Fire today! Take a quick read. Great information on closing doors and how important it is!

Earlier this afternoon, Brighton firefighters responded to a report of a fire in a garage attached to the house. First arriving units found a fast spreading fire being fueled by gasoline leaking from a vehicle inside. Although damage was estimated at $400,000, a quick response and knockdown kept most of the fire contained to the garage. We’d like to thank @City of Tonawanda Professional Firefighters, @Ellicott Creek Fire, @Kenilworth Fire, @Sheridan Park Fire, @Tonawanda Police, @Tonawanda Paramedics, and @Twin City Ambulance for their assistance.

On a side note, the pictures are a good example of how closing doors can prevent fire spread, which is why it’s so important to sleep with bedroom doors closed and #closebeforeyoudoze. @UL Firefighter Safety Research Institute

Annual Santa Run & Food Drive information!

Flyers will be going out on Monday and Santa will be out and about a week from today (Saturday the 19th, starting at 4:00pm). Due to the pandemic we are asking that all food donations be left at the end of the driveway to limit contact with the community. With that, Santa unfortunately will not be unable to leave the fire truck and no candy will be handed out. We apologize as we are doing our best to keep everybody safe and healthy!

Any questions about this years Santa Run please let us know! We will also do our best to keep our page updated with where Santa is as the night goes on!

P.S: we are always accepting new members! Information on joining is included with the flyer!
