Snyder Fire Department

A little after 1100hrs on Saturday Morning, November 28, 2020, Snyder Firefighters were called to a Commercial Hotel Occupancy on Sheridan Drive for an Alarm Activation. While en route, the Alarm Office notified the Chief, that there were reports of water flowing from the sprinkler system and an activated sprinkler head.

Members found a broken sprinkler head in a first-floor room. A hanger was placed on the head and sheared the Temperature-Sensitive Glass Bulb which allowed water to begin flowing. Members operated at the scene and isolated power to the hotel room, and shut the sprinkler system down. The scene was left with the Amherst Fire Inspectors office.

This is an important reminder not to hang items from sprinkler heads or to tamper with them.

Lewiston Fire Company No. 1

Very well written information from our friends up north!

Should I call an ambulance just because I suspect that I have COVID? The answer is No;

If you think you may have COVID and are experiencing qualifying symptoms, it’s best that you call your Doctor/Health Care professional or the COVID hotline from home. They will pre-screen you over the phone and give you directions on further testing and how to do it. This will most likely not be by ambulance.

Ambulances and 911 are resources that should be utilized for medical emergencies, that may be associated with COVID but for the majority of the population are not.

That being said, the volunteers of Lewiston Fire Company No. 1 remain dedicated in service to their community and ready to respond at a moments notice. We are taking extra precautions to ensure their safety during this time and we need your help!

The NYS DOH COVID Hotline is 1-888-364-3065

Last night we had a training on confined space as well as touring the Wastewater Treament Plant that is in our district. Big thanks to City of Tonawanda Fire Department for coming in and showing us how their confined space team operates. Another big thanks to Daric Will for giving us the tour of the Plant. It’s very beneficial to get into the buildings in our district so we can become familiar in case we ever have to respond there for an emergency!
