PSL Anchorage calls on Anchorage Assembly member George Martinez to resign immediately.

On Thursday (6/11) the Alaska Public Offices Commission (“APOC”) found that Martinez misused campaign funds.

Martinez spent $1,255 on an “out-and-back” Alaska Airlines flight to Fort Lauderdale, Florida and he contributed $1,000 in campaign funds to a company that allows passengers to purchase credits based on the estimated carbon emissions of their flight. Martinez received 1,500 “status points” on his personal Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan account in return for the carbon offset.

Martinez was uncooperative when interviewed by APOC. He responded to APOC’s findings by claiming that he has been “transparent from the start”.

Martinez is a glaring example of how the Municipality of Anchorage works for the few and not the many. Martinez regularly uses movement language to pretend that he is for the people but in reality he works to protect and profit from the status quo. Martinez is the personification of how liberals appropriate the struggles of the working-class to undermine the liberation of the working-class.

Martinez routinely provides cover for the Anchorage Police Department (“APD”). If APD can be held accountable, then the entire system can be too.

PSL Anchorage calls on Martinez to resign effectively immediately. It’s time for a new politics in Anchorage that’s for the many, not the few.

From housing to civilian oversight the LaFrance administration has demonstrated time and time again that it serves the interests of a wealthy few by targeting the working-class and the poor.

LaFrance has given more power to APD and protects killer cops by opposing real civilian oversight Alaskans who are unhoused are “moved along” at behest of property owners and donors.

Anchorages needs a new kind of politics that prioritizes the many over the few.

Anchorage needs a new kind of politics.

It is clear that the Municipality of Anchorage does not serve the many but a privileged few. We see this from housing, the criminalization of poverty to civilian oversight of APD. We have also seen that when the people organize, the people win.

Anchorage needs a new kind of politics that serves the many, not the few.

Are you ready to build a new kind of politics in Anchorage?

🚨BREAKING — The US has just resumed its criminal bombing of Iran, renewing the possibilities of a wider and even more explosive war.

In recent days, Israel has carried out new illegal strikes on Iran and Lebanon, with full backing from the U.S. military, bringing the region closer to catastrophe and prolonging a war that has already plunged the world into a cost of living crisis.

This crisis didn’t emerge overnight. For decades, successive US administrations — including the Trump administration — have fueled instability across the Middle East through sanctions, military interventions, regime change operations, occupation, and unconditional support for Israeli aggression. Trump’s unprovoked escalation against Iran was based entirely on lies. Rather than bring “no new wars,” as continually promised, he has left a trail of destruction while enriching weapons manufacturers and advancing imperial interests at the expense of civilians across the region.

Working people have nothing to gain from another endless war. We reject attempts to drag the people of the United States into a broader conflict with Iran, Lebanon and the entire region. The path forward is not more bombs, sanctions, and military escalation — it is an immediate end to the war, an end to US aid to Israel, and a commitment to peace and self-determination for the peoples of the Middle East.

The people demand real civilian oversight!

The Anchorage Assembly will take up civilian oversight at the July 21 meeting. APD attempted to takeover civilian oversight and they failed but that doesn’t mean they won’t try again.

The people have been clear about oversight: the people demand an independent commission, the power to investigate, the power to compel APD to cooperate, and the power to recommend disciplinary action and policy changes.

Join the surviving family members of officer-involved shootings, MMIP, and community members to demand real civilian oversight of APD.

When the people organize, the people win!

The substitute version of AO 2026-62 has been stopped for now. The Anchorage Assembly has re-opened the public hearing which means that the people can still fight for real civilian oversight. The people made their voices heard and the Assembly was forced to change course. The surviving family members of officer-involved shootings, MMIP, and community members gave powerful testimony in opposition to APD’s attempted take over of civilian oversight.

The next public hearing is scheduled for July 21st.

Anchorage Assembly Members Brawley and Perez-Verdia have release the substitute version of AO 2026-62 and it’s much worse then the original.

The people demand real oversight of APD!
