A little bit about myself.
I was born in Huntington County in 1957 to Pat and Charlie Garrison. We lived in Andrews on Snowden St. with my two brothers a one sister, John, Charlie and Melanie. In 1962 we moved out of town to the top of Copeland hill on Maple Grove Road, where a second sister, Julie arrived. I lived there with my parents until I was 19 and then moved to Fort Wayne.
I went to work for Kunkle Valve on Bluffton Road 1976 and held positions of Mechanical Draftsman, NC/CNC programmer, Tool Engineer, and Manufacturing Supervisor. In 1983, I left and went to work at DePuy a division of Boehringer Mannheim in Warsaw, Indiana. This is where my life changed. I held positions of CAM Engineer, Manager of Manufacturing Engineering, Business Unit Manager of Knees and Extremities and Business Unit Manager of Hips and Trauma. In 1991 I was asked to move my family to Albuquerque New Mexico as the Plant Manager. In 1993 I closed that plant and returned to Warsaw. I was then asked to close another plant in Dayton Ohio and eventually ended up in Warsaw as the Plant Manager of DePuy a Johnson and Johnson Company. This position gave me many the responsibilities of Manufacturing, Distribution, Facilities and Maintenance, Environmental, Health and Safety, Manufacturing Engineering and Planning, Capital and Departmental Planning. This position gave international travel and engagement with other facilities in Europe. I retired at age 55 and moved back to the Andrews area on Maple Grove Rd. to take care of my aging parents.
I met my wife of 42 years at DePuy and together we have four children and seven grandchildren. We enjoy the American Quarter Horse. We have three horses that one daughter and granddaughter show around the Country. I have ridden Motorcycles since 1973 and enjoyed traveling and seeing this great nation on two wheels. I also enjoy waterfowl and turkey hunting. I am a two time life sponsor of Ducks Unlimited and Sponsor our local Flint Springs NWTF events. I enjoy fishing on our pond and planting and raising food plots for the wildlife on our 90 acres north of Andrews.
I severed in the Indiana Guard Reserve for six years. The IGR is Indiana’s state defense force. This military unit reports to the Governor and the Adjutant General of Indiana. I served as the Personnel Officer in the North Battalion. This was one of my greatest joys, serving Hoosiers.
On October 10, 2020 on our way to North Dakota for an annual waterfowl hunting trip, I was in an automobile accident. This killed one of my best friends and left me in life threatening situation. A coma was induced after emergency surgery stop the bleeding from both ruptured Iliac Arteries. My pelvis was crushed with numerous broken bones. I spent two weeks on a respirator in a coma, five weeks Sanford Hospital in Fargo. I rode in an Ambulance to Ft. Wayne and spent two more week in Lutheran. Another month in a hospital bed in my living room before I could sleep in my own bed. I was left with 36 screws and 7 plates on my pelvis and leg. I now have nerve damage in my spine that makes life painful and difficult to walk.
I am conservative. Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. I believe there is good an evil. I believe in the Constitution of the United States, in the rule of law and this country has borders. I believe in voter ID. I believe that war is the last resort and there are rules. One, seek out the enemy and destroy them, two, innocent people will die. The Federal Government’s primary responsibilities are National Defense and Infrastructure. I believe local government is where the work should be done. We should rule locally and take care of our own. We should eliminate waste, manage the income streams and responsibly spend taxpayer dollars. I believe in a hand up not a hand out. Everyone should have skin in the game.
This is my short story. If you would like more information, please PM me on my FB account, Mitch Garrison for County Council.
