The city loves to point to our benefits package to excuse our base wages. But benefits don't pay the all of the bills, and they certainly don't close the gap when starting pay for identical positions in nearby towns like Chelsea is nearly 28% higher.

We have afscme workers that have to work second and third jobs just to make ends meet. We have career AFSCME workers making less than half of what their direct managers make. Some people might argue that it’s not the union’s business to fix these systemic pay issues, but our struggling members and their families wholeheartedly disagree. In a city that prides itself on progressive values and data-driven policy, we shouldn't have to push this hard just for a reasonable market correction.

Anyone calling us greedy or unrealistic - while having zero insight into our data-backed proposals or the economic hardships our members face - is genuinely out of touch with reality.

Only 17% of the members of Ann Arbor's biggest city workers union live in the city, according to AFSCME Local 369, which is now in mediation with the city for a labor contract dispute over wages and benefits.

ONE JOB SHOULD BE ENOUGH.

Many Ann Arbor AFSCME employees are forced to work second and sometimes third jobs just to make ends meet.

When you deny your employees the dignity of a fair wage, you force their families to go ANOTHER evening without seeing them at dinner time.

You force their families to go ANOTHER bedtime without saying goodnight.

You force their families to spend another family weekend wondering why their loved one can't afford to spend that quality time with them.

Tell the Ann Arbor City Council and Administration to actually treat workers like people.

We're not just numbers on a spreadsheet.

ONE JOB SHOULD BE ENOUGH.

🚨 MICHIGAN! 🚨
If you didn't vote early, here are your final options for the primary election:
TODAY (Aug 3) at 4 p.m.: Deadline to vote in person with an absentee ballot at your city or township clerk's office.
TOMORROW (Aug 4): Election Day! Polls are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time.
Working families are tired of getting squeezed. Half of Americans can barely afford groceries and gas, that "Big Beautiful Bill" just took food benefits away from 1 million children, and now Michigan Public reports the administration is ending a Medicare drug subsidy program early. This change could mean higher Medicare Part D premiums for millions in 2027, potentially costing seniors nearly 50% more for their coverage. Make your voice heard.
