Interested in workshop facilitation and engaging with other young people
Ready to learn and grow!
No previous facilitation experience is required! We’re looking for young people who simply have an interest in developing their skills and becoming confident youth facilitators.

Black farmers and environmental leaders have always been at the heart of community resilience. Saturday's workshop will be about reclaiming that legacy, building new skills, and planting seeds for a healthier, stronger future.

---> TODAY WAS A HALLMARK MOMENT AT ASBURY BROADNECK United Methodist Church! ✨ Asbury Broadneck UMC
Before the skies opened up and the rain came pouring down, something beautiful happened at Asbury Broadneck United Methodist Church in Annapolis with their youth summer camp.

For years, Breaking Boundaries Environmental LLC (BBE) has been honored to serve this historic Black community — planting trees across the church grounds, helping spearhead the Ephemeral Channel Restoration at the ABUMC cemetery, and now providing youth environmental education and understory planting. Today, that long‑term vision came full circle.

11–14 year‑olds gathered just before the storm to explore the world of green and blue infrastructure — the fastest‑growing industry on the planet. We talked about nature‑based careers, environmental justice, farming and its importance today, and how caring for the land is a form of service, stewardship, and spiritual connection.

We toured the multi‑acre lot, observing the recently planted trees and, over the last few years, discussing with them how to maintain them, and discussed why tree care is an act of love — for community, for creation, for self, and for God.

Then the youth got dirty!
Together they planted 11 understory pollinator plants — not just any plants, but species chosen for their ecological duty:

Wild Bergamot
Purple Coneflower
Orange Coneflower
New England Aster

They added soil, mulched each plant, and finished before dismissal at 3 PM… just in time for the sky to open up and the rain to bless the recently planted land.

Today wasn’t just an activity — it was a milestone. A plan set in motion years ago by our ancestors and is now showing real roots and real fruits.

This is why a thriving business sector matters. Legislators can pass bills, write policies, and create programs — but without strong, community‑centered businesses to implement them, the work doesn’t reach the people. BBE is a shining example of the Public‑Private Partnership (PPP) model working exactly as intended, grounded in environmental justice and natural resource stewardship.

Today was more than a workshop with some youth, these youth were my family, my extended branches of loved ones. As we toured the cemetery, my only thought was, legacy-building. It was joy. It was purpose, it was a moment of a sense of freedom.
We are proud.
And these youth? They’re the future — and the future looks bright.

We are honored to partner with Mt. Pleasant Acre Farms, Xavier Brown, Nature’z Daughter, Community Healing, and others to welcome an incredible group of youth from Anacostia for a day of learning, connection, and inspiration.

Together, we explored the joys of farming, planted crops, discovered the importance of environmental sustainability, and showed how caring for the land also means investing in healthier communities and brighter futures. When we finished everything, it began to rain! True blessing.

From getting their hands and feet in the soil to learning where food comes from, these young leaders experienced firsthand the power of agriculture to transform lives.

This is more than farming—it's about cultivating knowledge, building confidence, strengthening community, economic development, and planting seeds of opportunity that will grow for generations to come.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this day possible. We look forward to continuing this work and creating more opportunities for our youth to reconnect with the land, the environment, and each other.
