Applications are being accepted until June 30th.

In 2013, the Village of Arlington Heights created the Affordable Housing Trust Fund (AHTF) to address attainable housing goals, policies, and programs of the Village Board.

The Village recently adopted the Affordable Housing Trust Fund Guidelines and is now accepting applications on an annual basis for use of the AHTF with a deadline of June 30th. The Village is accepting applications for the following activities:

1. Creation and preservation of attainable housing including without limitation, new construction, rehabilitation, or adaptive reuse.

2. Acquisition and disposition, including without limitation, vacant land, single-family homes, multi-unit buildings, or other structures that may be used in whole or in part to provide attainable housing.

Please see www.vah.com/AHTF for further information and to apply. Inquiries may be directed to the Planning and Community Development Department at [email protected] or 847-368-5200.

Thank you to the entire department and our mutual aid partners for their work ensuring the best possible outcome on a recent burglary invasion and stand-off. The Village of Arlington Heights does not currently allow Video Gaming Terminals (VGTs) in our community. Please attend the Committee of the Whole meeting on Monday night at 7pm to voice your support or opposition to video gambling in Arlington Heights.

If you support video gambling, there are many important rules and regulations for the board to consider including:
✅Where should video gambling be allowed?
✅How many licenses should be allowed?
✅What would be the basis of granting/not granting licenses if there were more applications than available licenses?
✅Should there be requirements for inside the business?
✅Should there be eligibility requirements to determine which businesses qualify for a license?
✅Are all on premise liquor license classifications eligible to install video gambling?

If you are unable to attend, please send an email to the Village Board with your thoughts. Your opinion matters!

The next Village of Arlington Heights Committee-of-the-Whole Meeting is Monday, March 9th, at 7 p.m. in the Community Room at Village Hall, 33 S. Arlington Heights Rd. New Business on the agenda includes a Video Gaming Discussion. See the agenda at: https://arlingtonheightsil.portal.civicclerk.com/event/5811/overview

On Monday night, the Village Board voted unanimously to ban short-term rentals of less than 30 days beginning July 1, 2026. I believe updating our policy was necessary for several important reasons:

1) Affordability – This ban helps ensure homes remain available for the residents who shop, work, and volunteer in our community, rather than being converted into investment properties.

2) Neighborhood Character – With the possibility of the Chicago Bears building a stadium at Arlington Park, we want to be proactive in protecting the character and stability of our neighborhoods.

3) Resident Concerns – Many residents have shared that they do not want to live next to short-term rentals, frequently citing noise and quality-of-life issues.

4) Regional Consistency – Neighboring communities such as Rolling Meadows, Palatine, and Buffalo Grove have adopted similar restrictions.

The goal is to protect housing availability, preserve neighborhood character, and respond to the concerns of our residents.

Arlington Heights officials will impose a ban on short-term rentals beginning this summer, but say they plan to revisit the issue if the Bears come to town and there’s an increase in demand for plac...

Join Village staff for an informational open house on the proposed Vail Avenue Promenade Project on Thursday, March 12, from 5–7 p.m. in the Village Board Room at Village Hall. Stop by to review plans, learn about the project, and ask questions.

The proposed project would transform a portion of Vail Avenue and Campbell Street in Downtown Arlington Heights into a curbless, pedestrian-priority street designed to create a more inviting, community-centered space. The goal is to better connect Harmony Park with surrounding shops, restaurants, and nearby neighborhoods—strengthening the energy and accessibility of our thriving downtown. For additional project details, visit www.vah.com/vail.

Last night was the grand opening celebration of the beautiful new Arlington Ridge Center (ARC) two-story addition and renovated aquatic locker rooms. With more room for programming, the new spaces address the feedback the park district received about what residents want in a community center.

The Hearts of Gold luncheon hosted by the Special Events Commission is one of my favorite village events to attend. It's a wonderful celebration of mentors, great neighbors, educators, young champions, business leaders and dedicated volunteers who make Arlington Heights such a wonderful place to live.

Congratulations to this year's incredible honorees, including Lisa Smorczewski, teacher at Westgate Elementary School! 💛
