On Monday night, the Village Board voted unanimously to ban short-term rentals of less than 30 days beginning July 1, 2026. I believe updating our policy was necessary for several important reasons:
1) Affordability – This ban helps ensure homes remain available for the residents who shop, work, and volunteer in our community, rather than being converted into investment properties.
2) Neighborhood Character – With the possibility of the Chicago Bears building a stadium at Arlington Park, we want to be proactive in protecting the character and stability of our neighborhoods.
3) Resident Concerns – Many residents have shared that they do not want to live next to short-term rentals, frequently citing noise and quality-of-life issues.
4) Regional Consistency – Neighboring communities such as Rolling Meadows, Palatine, and Buffalo Grove have adopted similar restrictions.
The goal is to protect housing availability, preserve neighborhood character, and respond to the concerns of our residents.
